In this new Grow Out mini-series Ricky Stoddart takes a look at another batch of Koi at our specialist facilities. This time it's the turn of our pond of 1,000 tosai Showa from Hoshikin Koi Farm that arrived at Koi Wholesale recently.
Ricky explains the conditions in which these Koi carp will be kept at Koi Wholesale, why his selection criteria for these fish will focus on their beni pattern and why the sumi is not so important at this stage, and how they will be fed on a mix of Saki Hikari Colour and Saki Hikari Growth to maximise their potential.
Hoshikin is renowned as one of the best Kohaku breeders and has one of the longest serving Kohaku bloodlines in Japan. To him, Showa (and more specifically, Kindai Showa) are a variety of Koi that he loves and keeps as a hobby for his own enjoyment, so to follow these fish from this breeder as they develop and grow really is a special treat!
This is one of a number of Grow Out mini-series that we'll be recording. If you've not already seen our Shinida Hi Utsuri Grow Out (part 1) it's available at • SHINODA HI UTSURI Grow...
