ho w long is a typical / regular visit ?
@HospiceNurseAllie9 ай бұрын
Usually 40 minutes or so. Sometimes longer depending on what needs to be done though. I’ve stayed with patients for almost 2 hours making sure their comfortable and the family is okay.

The cat was so hilarious and made my day🤣. So I'm looking to be a RN Case manager for either home health or hospice as a new grad as the hospital is not for me but I do want to be a wound care nurse as well. What do you suggest?
@HospiceNurseAllie2 жыл бұрын
Well home health and hospice do TONS of wound care! You can always of both! I would say 4/5 of my visits a day have wound care. Our wound care nurse is an NP. Not many hospice companies have specific wound care nurses but home health may! Look around babe, go with your gut. Also, highly suggest looking to see if any homehealth/ hospice agency’s have new grad nurse residency programs.

my dad just passed on hospice last week... the only problem i had with the whole process is the hospital basically sent him home dead.. his body was just there waiting to take last breath .. he was unconcious coming thru the door to home... why wasnt this move made while he was still alive?

I am so sorry for your loss. I am a Hospice Nurse I can try to answer that question. Sadly unless your father was in a Hospice Unit; Medicare & Medical insurances will not cover End of Life Care for hospital inpatient due to cost. I am so sorry, I know that sounds harsh.
@HospiceNurseAllie6 ай бұрын
It sounds like they should have initiated hospice sooner than they did or perhaps initiated comfort care measures inpatient. It is hard for me to tell from this side of the screen but it sounds like that transfer wads not the right move for dad. I am so sorry for your experience.

When my dad passed on hospice it took the on call nurse forever to get there. By the time she did the ems had already pronounced him dead so the nurse literally showed up, turned around, and left. She was there for 5 mins. I was so upset about it
@rena6895 Жыл бұрын
@@ssjess2504I am not sure if the reason, I can only speak for myself. If I get a call in the middle of the night, it’s 10-15 min to get dressed & I have patients that live over an hour away., My father was on Hospice too, his nurse lived an 1.5 hours away. I am sure that may have been the case with your father too. I am not sure why the EMS were there but they do have a quicker response time, because they are usually closer and can drive faster. Our Hospice protocol is to stay with the patient until the funeral home arrives. I often provide an Angel Bath, destroy medications, & comfort the family.

Thank you so much for your videos. I subscribe to your channel. Could you please do a video on hospice medications? Difference between outpatient medications and hospice medications. Do hospice patients stop certain medications? Cholesterol medications, insulin, vitamin D, etc. How do you handle patients or caregivers who insists they keep certain medications? Do hospice patients need IV access? are medications all po and sublingual? Thank you!

When my dad was on hospice they checked his medications from home and discontinued almost everything from vitamins, to cholesterol meds, etc. He went from taking 10 meds a day at home to like 2. Then there's the comfort pack of meds that's pretty standard for all hospice (haldol, morphine, Tylenol, Ativan, nausea meds, meds to help with bowel movements, etc)
