I came to hospice nursing from oncology. I never considered hospice when I was in nursing school but I sort of fell into it and I absolutely love it! I saw so much suffering in oncology; it feels so good to get someone comfortable at end of life and to support their loved ones through the journey. Thanks for the videos Allie, so much good info!

I am so happy to hear you found your niche in hospice! It’s truly a hidden gem in nursing I think. It really is so rewarding to make patients comfortable before they make their journey home. ♥️

I'm moving to hospice for the same reason. I'm from surgical oncology so it was all suffering. It'll be great to finally relieve some of it

Hi Allie. I was told that we have a choice of a company phone or using personal phone with reimbursement. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations. I start my new job next week. Thank you .

I would definitely use a company phone. You want to be able to separate your personal/work life to maintain boundaries. Reimbursement can also sometimes be a pain to get in terms of how much you actually should be owed for using your own phone! Go with the work phone!

I'm a midwife with a degree in Ghana and I'm very interested in hospice nursing. My dad died of cancer which got me interested. Hope it's possible and how do i go about it?

If you have your RN or LPN I would just start searching and applying. There’s also some companies that have hospice nurse residency programs!

How do I stop seeing myself in my patients: my future self and fears of adult kids not caring
@HospiceNurseAllie Жыл бұрын
That’s a really great question and not one I have a direct answer for to be honest. I just hope that the way I lead my life will lead to it all working out in the end.

I am an LVN new graduate and currently working as a home care aid and waiting to take my NCLEX can I start work as a hospice nurse as soon as I pass NCLEX? Or do I need another certification for that?
@HospiceNurseAllie Жыл бұрын
Nope! Usually hospice companies suggest you get your CHPN about 6months-1year after working. Not every company requires you to get it either. Congratulations on graduating!!!

I’m currently a caregiver and I love my job so I want to become a hospice nurse. Is being a caregiver enough experience or will I have to work in a hospital for more experience?
@HospiceNurseAllie Жыл бұрын
Usually they look for some sort of LTC or hospital experience. Every hospice is different though. There are also hospices who have new grad residency programs so you can go in with none or minimal experience, and learn how to be a hospice nurse over 6months-1year in residency.

Thank you for this! Im starting nursing school and have always been interested/passionate about hospice nursing the most! Would you ever consider making a video about your journey through school and nursing and how you got to where you are now in your career?

For 13 years i've been working in a hospice care facility here in Italy. And I really became passionate in caring for these patients, it made me understand what life is all about. I am now preparing to become an RN in the US and God willing i will continue to pursue my career as a hospice nurse.
