Cold to dean in this scene or just in general? In this scene I get her ice cold mentality, Dean was acting like a fucking lunatic. In general though you could get the sense that Cindy just kind of fell out of love with the guy but just stayed with him just out of convenience and ended up resenting him all the more even when he's trying to be a good guy which eventually spirals him into this drunken monster we see in this scene. To me her worst action in the film was telling Dean about seeing old flame Bobby at the store.

I might have a warped view of relationships but I view staying together for convenience is what most marriages dwindle into. They start out all happy and think it will last forever but a few years go by, she squeezes out a few kids and then either the husband or the wife or sometimes even both realize they don't really like the person they are laying next to at night anymore and sometimes it's not even that the other person did anything wrong. I've been in a relationship where just kind of one day things just felt different, the faces she would make that would light up my day I know found annoying. The conversation I once looked forward to became a chore. Sex felt empty. And when the person would leave for work or whatever and I had any alone time I felt like just breaking out into a happy dance number in my living room....this person did nothing wrong. They didn't cheat, they weren't bitchy. The love just died. Thankfully I got out of the marriage trap before it turned into hate but lots of people don't, Cindy didn't which yes is shitty of her but I doubt she even realized how fractured the relationship was until it actually ended.

“Brilliant” and “perfect” are so overused that they don’t mean enough when you need them... From its sweet beginnings to the bitter end, this film’s small subject-the marriage of a working-class NYC-boroughs couple-becomes a universal comment: everyone knows a Cindy-and-Dean. The organic, electrifying Office Fight is close as I think we’ll ever come to a peak performance caught on film; its seamless improv, the actors’ uncanny synergy, made me feel like I’d accidentally walked in on their lives...

“Girls just tend to lose interest” ? More like both guys and girls tend to lose interest, especially after marriage. And if you do want to generalize the female population, I’ll just say that married men cheat on their wives way more often and they are the ones who lose interest. I worked with this Italian guy who got married at 40. He spent most of his life living around the world and from what he says he's been with a lot of women. Pretty much travelled the world sleeping with different women lol but chose to not get emotionally attached. He hit that age of deciding to settle down and now he's like 56 with a wife and kids. Him and his wife have such good chemistry and he's very happy. He describes it that you're a different person in your 40's than in your 20's. In your 20's you're closer to when you were a teenager than a 40 year old, that's why many get divorced because that 40 year old is not the same as the 20 year old and the 20 year old is not that different than the teenager. They’re both flawed but can’t help feeling sorry for dean. His lack of “ambition” killed their marriage but he never said he had any grand ambitions or plans for himself, he was always honest about himself and open. During the dinner he admitted he didn’t want or plan to be a husband or a father but when the time came he found out that’s all he wanted in life so that’s what he did and made an honest living so he could pay bills but also be an attentive father. And she gaslighted him the whole movie especially when she met her ex again, and you can’t say she’s right when you see she’s visibly flustered when talking to him again and even kind of excited, and as soon as she tells dean she try’s to back pedal and make up for even bringing it up and even deflects onto dean by saying well he’s s fat loser (like I said she was always kind of hinting more about dean being a loser with wasted potential even when talking about someone else)which offers nothing to the table. People always bring that scene up and say they feel sorry for her and she has to walk on eggshells but remember that’s the man that impregnated his wife treated her like shit and then jumped him and you expect him not to be upset

This scene triggers some trauma in me. She didn’t have to say she was more of a man than him. That’s what really set him off and made him acts crazy. She manipulated him and acts surprised when he did what she manipulated him to do.

This could’ve been avoided if he gave her some space and wait until she comes home and stayed sober. Then maybe there would’ve been a better chance to save their marriage.
