This is the first video for making tooling for the Hossfeld #2 bender. In this video I make the flat head pins, the eye pin, the eye-bolt bending dog and two thumb nuts.
In this video used a technique to square up a block in the mill. I learned this from Joe Pieczynski's video which can be seen here - • The Best Mill Tip You ...
My example of bending an eyelet in this video was not very good. That said, there are a few videos from others that show how to use the Hossfeld bender to bend an eyelet with the eye-bolt bending dog.
Hossfeld - • 16B Eye Bolt Bending Dog
Rob D'Amico - • Hossfeld Bender: Eye B...
This old Tony - • Manual Metal Benders
Joe Dal Pra - • metal demo 12 hossfeld...
Here are the first two videos for the Hossfeld bender build.
Part 1 - • Hossfeld bender build ...
Part 2 - • Hossfeld bender build ...
Here are the links to my tube vise build which I mentioned in this video.

This is just the information I need. I bought a bunch of dies for a Hossfeld #2 for a bargain price, so then I bought the Hossfeld frame and some more misc parts for it. These two videos have my head on fire, as I now have the knowledge to make the basic tooling to start actually using it. I cannot thank you enough for this.

I'm no expert on the Hossfeld bender, but I'm glad the video helped you. You are lucky to find Hossfeld tooling at a bargain. From what I have seen the tooling is very expensive, even second hand. There is probably no chance finding tooling in NZ where I live. I have not even seen a Hossfeld bender for sale here.

Good work. I use EN8 mild steel for that sort of job as it is the hardest of the mild steels. Also you can harden it which improves wear resistance, in oil which oil blackens it too.

This is something I need to learn to use. I bought a used bender a year ago and never sat down and worked with it. I have no idea what the different dogs are used for.

I am still learning myself. Once I have worked out how to use the bender I will make some videos on the usage.

mild steel can be case-hardened and carburized at the same time, might be a good option for the eye bolt dog if you have some way to heat the whole setup. think clickspring over in australia has a video with a recipe for the carbon mix to coat it with and how to do it

Thanks for the advise. I think the steel I used had high carbon in it as the edge hardened when I heated and quenched it in oil.

Another great video! I was thinking you’d need to hardface that edge, but you got there in the end. That vise is really working out well! I wasn’t surprised that the thick block of steel, even mild steel, would take that long to cut. If accuracy isn’t critical, would it be worth it to start the cuts with the cutoff wheel? Cheers!

I did think about using cut off wheels, but from past experience I would need a whole lot off them to get through the block. The bandsaw is a lot slower, but it is cheaper.

Curious why the center pin is larger than the other pins. Would it not be practical if all the tooling had the same diameter through hole?

Hi, I'm not sure as I did not design this bender, but I presume it is so the center pin is protected. E.g. if you try to bend something too big, the smaller pins would bend instead of the center pin.
