Thanks for the "shout out," and yes, I absolutely garden the way y'all have taught me! It's the most economical way and so far, the most productive way to garden here in the South. I am so excited for my Fall garden this year! I'm still picking Lady peas - That's about the only thing that's survived the Summer, but I'm starting my brassicas inside. If it will ever stop raining here (it's been every day this week!!), I'll be able to get my beds prepared. Greg - I don't have a lot of trouble with rabbits, but I do let my chickens free-range. Those little buggers can destroy a garden in nothing flat if I don't fence them out, and it does help with the few rabbits I've seen here, too. Best part is that it's easy to take down so I can mow and till, and it's easy to put back up.

I sowed my collards today in your seed starter trays to grow out in my new leaf green stalk planter this fall/winter. Growing them for my Grands (15&18) whom I taught to love them as much as I do. I can make them a pot of beans, collards, or turnip greens with a pan of cornbread and you'd think they'd had a steak and lobster dinner......................gotta love it!

Mary Jo, beans, collards and cornbread is a meal fit for a queen or king. I purchased a leaf green stalk in spring and plan to use it this fall. I'll plant lettuces, spinach, carrots and beets in it. I'm interested in seeing how the collards do for you in the leaf green stalk. Please keep us posted.
@maryjomoore73792 жыл бұрын
@@susanpayne5592 I'll let you know. I've been told they should be successful! Actually an experiment for my 15 yr old Granddaughter and if successful I will buy her her own vertical. She is interested in growing her own food. I've been following the sun, thought I could grow on front porch but that is looking unlikely now that we are approaching fall. So it looks like to the center of the back yard. Should have a better handle on it by the time the seeds are hatched and ready to transplant.

Tracy has some great info on their channel at Just Dig It Farms! Tracy seems to be very visual, just like me so I really enjoy her information. She has videos showing how she organizes and plans her garden. It’s awesome! She does the planning for whole year at the beginning of the year. The awesome part is she determines which plants she is planting (tomato, squash, basil, etc) and lists it on the cards, but then chooses the varieties and drops them in the sections. So she doesn’t have to redo the cards each year, just some individual dates maybe, based on frost

I'm planting/growing a fall garden...mostly beets, turnips, collards, kale, carrots and chard. Kind of limited here in TN. The Old Goat in in the water can. I tried a new seeding method for carrots... I make a pudding with corn starch and then after it's cooled I add the seed, put it all in a baggie with a little hole in the corner and squeeze a line in rows... keeps the seed moist and far less thinning.

Their onions I grew last fall ( Dec 1st ) & harvested over 300 here in Montgomery County, Texas. End of April 2022 , really bulbed nicely and I ringed mine , some people do some people don't, I find ringing them ( you can use your finger or a spoon & dig the dirt around the onions so them bulb bigger , I ordered just 1 bunch 75 onion started from Dixondale farms here in Texas & I will say my Hoss tools onion starts did amazing , We gave alot away to family & people in our community that wanted to try them & told them about ordering from Hoss tools .and we still have about 45 Reds left & about 30 sweet Vadlia onions that I've cut up & froze .. So you have no worries 👍 hoss onion starts grow GREAT IN TEXAS ! USE THE AMMONIUM SULFATE 21-0-0 AN YOU WILL BE VERY HAPPY So yes their onions grew great here in Texas . The weather is bat sh*t crazy this year.. I already feel the seasons changing too.. We haven't been in the 90s in days.. cloud cover. I my winter squash came in in June.. I'm just starting to get zucchini now.. my tomatoes, such as the were were done in the middle of July.. except one bush that has 3 green/whitish small tomatoes on it that haven't changed color in a month. The one okra bush that survived the birds has a couple on it... and I think I have a melon almost ready.. canary melon. I didn't grow corn.. the pollen from corn tassels makes my eye whites swell to the point they're translucent and hanging on my lashes.. it's miserable. I went ahead and got 8 varieties of carrot seeds sprouted.. the baggie paper towel method. I had a lot of sprouted seeds.. all 8 kinds. I put them in their places.. some in the yard, ox-heart in big pots. Hercules too I. I think they all died. I am horrible at transplanting and keeping things alive. I do have Swiss chard coming out. A diet without chocolate? hard pass. I think I'd have to stock up on dark chocolate covered espresso beans and cheat. I guess I might not be growing cabbage this fall.. nothing planted and I'm a bit further north than y'all are. I'm going to try and direct sow everything. I've been digging that blasted rhizome grass out for weeks for the fall beds. I'm getting mixed messages about Brussels sprouts.. Vidalia area the coop ext says pre-spring transplant. I keep my seeds in a file cabinet drawer. I like the idea of organizing by month instead of how I have it now.. alphabetic. I'm getting ready to put my tree seeds in the fridge for a while. The pepper seeds I stuck in cups two weeks ago, nada. No tomato sprouts either. two weeks.. sigh. I already ordered the elephant garlic.

The old goat is in the orange watering can. I'm in 8b, is it too late to start my cabbage? I haven't started them inside yet so I can transplant them out.

I am afraid I might have fusarium wilt in my garden. It started I think looking back, in my tomatoes. I hadn't seen it before and didn't recognize it. I got rid of the tomatoes early on but now, since I didn't really know what it was, it has lingered in the okra, which is right next to where the tomatoes were. Is there a cool weather cover crop that will help get rid of that, or something I can drench the soil with that will help? And..... what plants should I not put back there in the near future? I'm pulling up the rest of the okra today and burn it.

When you accidently grow some "leggy" cole crop transplants do you still plant them at root collar depth or plant them deep and only leave the green part sticking up? Or not bother planting them at all?
