First year gardener and love your channel. So I kept hearing about japanese beetles. Everyone was telling me they were having issues. I have seen one, and only one, the entire year. Well I stood on top os a small hill about 20 feet from my garden fence and notice a huge patch of wild raspberries I hadn't noticed. I walked to it and found ALL the Japanese beetles. Like 1000's. Best accidental trap crop ever haha.

I am glad that I found y'all's channel. I never gardened in Georgia. I have had that opportunity in Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, and now Missouri. I love the idea of trap crops. I find that pest pressure on my green beans is much lighter after the thousands of acers of soybeans are planted around me. I do still have issues with corn earworms on my second sweet corn crop. I think the fall crop is worse than spring corn in my area. Keep up the good work, and get some planters to sell.

Great job this week hiding the old goat, I couldn't find him and had to cheat by checking the comments posted. I figured he had to be in the zinnia behind Sheila. So happy to hear about the BEER TRAPS for slugs, it's the ONLY successful way I've had of trapping them and allowing my poor plants to survive. Great Show about the bugs we have to contend with, but the horrible vine bore and stink bug have cured me from growing any vine veggies. Wish you'd discuss the slug eggs, what they look like, because I've brought in bags of soil and mulch which were loaded with what I believe were the slug eggs, translucent and small pea shaped. Thanks Greg and Sheila!!!

For anyone fighting leaf footed bugs a great catch crop for them is sunflowers, I grow the mammoth variety. I'm in zone 8a if it matters. After they congregate on the flower heads I spray them with a mixture of dawn dish washing liquid and water, about 3 tbps per gallon. For single leaf footed bugs I like, no I love blasting them with a propane flame from a hand held trigger device.

Old goat is being shy this week. He is hiding behind the flowers on the 2nd shelf behind Mama Hoss. I've had good results for pest control in my garden using Monterey Spinosad based spray and their Complete control for fungus and garden diseases. Spinosad has worked on flea beetles for us. Also growing disease resistant varieties is especially important in the late summer and fall in my area (Zone 8A). Monterey Sluggo Plus for slug control works for us. It's the Sluggo plus Spinosad for other pests that reside in the soil. Another tip I would give is buy smaller bottles of your Monterey insect and disease products. I like to buy fresh every spring as I've had some products seem to be less effective as time goes by and if stored in a hot garage. It may seem less expensive per ounce to buy the bigger bottle of concentrate, but if you only use a portion of the bottle and it starts to be less effective, you end up tossing a lot of product out. So depending on your garden size, it may actually be less expensive to buy a smaller container and use most of it.

Don't kid yourself. Snails WILL attack upright, airy plants. They LOVE my okra. They love the base of the little bud. I find them sitting there feeding on the tender little okra pod right when the flower is about to drop off. They attack at night and the next day the little pod drops off. @gardeningwithhoss2 жыл бұрын
Sprinkle diatomaceous earth around the stalks when the squash vines are small or the threat of squash vine borers is high (early to mid-summer). Reapply after rain. Also, build up the soil around the vines. Or, sprinkle black pepper around the plants as a defense.
