More please! This is a great start to a Hostile Solo campaign. I like the ship name ‘Wanda’ it smacks of Firefly … !

Carver and Carter... Stuff happens in the real world. My name is Case and my immediate co-worker's name is Chase. This causes no end of confusion at work, and what's really amusing about it is the fact that people where calling messing up and calling ME CHASE before the real Chase joined me. Like I said, stuff happens in the read world.

The similar last names could be a future opportunity for role playing or a potential source for an incident at some point. Perhaps there's some mysterious message left by someone (perhaps an audio log or recording) where the person speaking said "Carver" accidentally instead of "Carter" (or vice versa) or there's some kind of static in the third character so it's hard to make out whether the speaker is saying "Carver" or "Carter". Could then end up causing the two characters to suspect each other (and to try and prove their own innocence) and the rest of the crew may not know who to trust - especially seeing how the two characters are leaders.

Half way through and really enjoying. Been wanting to get into traveller or something similar for a while and when I discovered the Hostile setting it just seemed to be more in line with what I liked in Science Fiction. I think Ill be getting this game and maybe the core rules too.

I was creating characters as I was playing this :-P I ended up getting Hostile Solo, setting book and several suppplements. Going to get the Hostile Rules and extra supplements later on as I learn how to play this more and get more detail with the core rules and add stuff as I need and want to. Thanks again for these and answering my questions on your Hostile Solo review :-)

It’s great how you mention skipping over certain procedures if you find them boring. I do this too, and sometimes make things happen rather than relying on die rolls for everything - e.g. in my solo Cepheus Engine playthrough I felt like having a fight with some pirates, so I just rolled up an encounter with them on purpose rather than leaving it to chance. The whole point is to have fun right? 😊

Do you have to have so many crew members or does the game work with 2-3 maybe 4? 8 crew members seems like a lot to manage to start with. I've never role played solo and I'm thinking of picking this up to dip my toes in the water. Do you think the system is a good entry point or is there another system you'd recommend? Thanks for the video. I enjoyed watching.
@ARKavli Жыл бұрын
You could start with less, assuming more crew functions being taken by automation, or run a troubleshooting campaign. I think HOSTILE is fine for entry, and is unique in that it deals with playing group interactions. Mechanics wise, Zadmar Game's Tricube Tales and it's Solo supplement are very light rules focusing on narrative, but the solo has great tables. And for only a couple of bucks on DTRPG. I'd recommend that for toes in the water. Also Ironsworn and Ironsworn:Starforged are designed for solo-play from the ground up and are both great, though a little more complex. You can find reviews and / or solo play sessions for each of these (including HOSTILE) on my channel, though I do tend to go on. :)

Thanks for this, just checking out various systems/ games for my choice of a Solo SCi-Fi campaign. Hostile Solo, looks like a good possibility (but I'll probably end up combining aspects of different systems). Very handy to see a playthrough session. 👍Do you always play as a survey/ exploration? (Just wondersing if you bought the 'Explorers' book specifically? Or whether you buy differently themed books for each game/ campaign?)
@ARKavli Жыл бұрын
I do like the explorer aspect of many RPGs, and I already had explorers before the solo supplement was published. Each campaign type does actually have a complimentary supplement that expands the info given in Solo.

One additional quick question I purchased hostile solo and enjoying the learning process. One thing I noticed is the abundance of oracles are spread throughout the book I'm finding it challenging to remember where to find these things. The only solution I can think of is to copy all of them to a quick reference sheet. Has one been done or do you have a different solution?
@ARKavli Жыл бұрын
I don't know of such a reference sheet, but it would be easy enough to make. Some of the oracles are spread out because each campaign type has it's own set. But each campaign also refers back to the oracles at the beginning of the book and the main world creation oracles from the spacer campaign, so making a reference sheet could be helpful. I didn't come up with a solution aside from using the PDF bookmarks. In my second (unfinished) HOSTILE Solo campaign, I found it easier to open the PDF in my browser and switch tabs instead of opening an Adobe window.

Curious if you think this could be converted to exclusively mobile? I spend most times only having access to my iPad or Android.
@ARKavli Жыл бұрын
If you mean converting Roll20 to mobile, I know they have a mobile app. I've never used it, but from I've read it's meant to be used as a companion to the webpage. If you mean just running a game, absolutely! All of the HOSTILE books are available as PDFs and you would only need some text app to keep track of the story and character sheet.
