This catch and cook episode was an unexpected one! At 5pm, less than 2 hours before dark we decide to make a quick run to the key largo patch reefs in hopes to film a snapper catch n cook. And we didn't only catch snapper... We got a whole fish vs fish vs fish catch n cook!
Our patch reef fishing trip starts by Heiko showing you how to patch reef fish in key largo. The fishing rigs to use patch reef fishing. And just in general how to catch fish in key largo patch reef fishing. Follow these steps and you will surely end up with a catch and cook episode of your own!
When patch reef fishing you will catch snapper most of the time. Catching snapper includes mangrove snapper, yellowtail snapper and the infamous mutton snapper catch and cook!
YOU will ALSO catch fish like porgys and grunts while fishing the patch reef in the Florida Keys.
BTW there are patch reefs all over the Florida Keys. Patch reef fishing isn't just popular in Key Largo. But all the way from Key Largo down to Key West!

porgy and black sea bass are over looked by a lot of people,,, but the people that know say they are the best eating .... now ... last year I was in an area that all we caught was sea robin,,, some were really big,,, so I took one home,,, no one I know ever tried one ,,,, I had to clean it like a cat fish and I cut the back out of it ,,,, this was the cleanest whitest meat I have ever seen and it really tasted good,,, a big surprise to me since no one ever keeps them
