Spanish Harbor is one of the best bridges to catch keeper mangroves and yellow jacks. Next time you throw your chum in the water use size 3/0 circle hooks with shrimp, dead or alive it doesn’t really matter. There were some 14”+ mangroves under your chum, they just weren’t interested in the sabiki.
@andybrown72082 жыл бұрын
so funny - i regularly catch something right after a boat goes by - thinking it helps stir up the water almost like chum kicking food up and around - also gets water harder to see for fish so they might miss the hook and bite.

@calallen87862 жыл бұрын
Schoolmaster. Btw night time fishing been on fire down in the keys . Use frozen sardines or manhaden. What I've learned in Florida. You do NOT use chum on bridge. It a waste of money since all the cut bait and scrap that what brings the fish in. Cast the bait toward other bridge pilings for bigger mangrove or cast it out in the open for big muttons snappers. It hard to catch live bait in the keys

I spearfish Ed this bridge and there are hundreds of snapper by each pilon, some as big as my chest. The issue in this area are barracuda, they will snaych your catch quick and they wait for you to throw bait in the water and catch a fish then they strike.

Buy some blue crabs and freeline them with the current for permit (although im not sure if they are still running) and for bigger snapper and yellowjacks use pilchards with the current with a 1-1/2 oz egg sinker, cut bait doesnt work that well on warmer water and less so in the summer, but also the tiny gotchas jigging with the current can work. And use chum a lot of chum

Yooooo guys I'll be down there tomorrow! Not that south but I'll point you the right bridge further north 😆! I know exactly that bridge you were at...it's actually a good bridge but not during the day with this heat. I caught my first Snook and Tarpon there. Right now the trend there is night fishing...during the day it's too hot and you'll get dinks! Trust me I fished there for years. If you want to join me...I'll show you how it's done down there with my setup and you'll be super impressed what toys I got! It's a very unique fishery down there...buy frozen or live Ballyhoo for some massive Snappers. Large size Mangrove Snappers, Mutton Snappers, Yellow Jacks, and Cudas love them!
