Since I got my trailer, with the instant water feature. I found myself using it often. The trailer having a sink built-in is awesome. Back when I was tent camping I don't know if I would go so far as to get one of those. And thank you for saying to drain your gray water far away from your campsite and the water source. I do not even recommend having biodegradable soap near creeks rivers or lakes. Too many people using them do create an impact. And how about your campsite! Able to back right up to the river! That's awesome! And I love your theater!

I got 5 kids and I RV and TT a lot in a min 30 foot trailer/RV. But these videos are key! I take his principles and apply them to my situation. The whole tub system does seem like a bit much unless you have a lot of spare room. I do admit though, I *really* like how some people mount these on the outside of the teardrop/squaredrop in a pelican case. Then add a rack-mounted or free-standing shower curtain/en suite and you have a great shower setup if you're around other people in a state park, a group outing or something like that. Always enjoy hearing your opinion - thanks for another great video!

She is kind of my success story. I realized when may is happy everyone is happy. And then once she got comfortable and we brought new people into our campsite we had to adjust for them as well. And selfishly in the end it really benefits me because nobody wants to go home early. Everybody just wants to call in sick 🤒

New idea to me to use the pump to fill my aquatainer at water source and then use the shower elsewhere. Nice suggestion. The tub might be good for clothes washing...not dishes. Love the that their hoses are quick connect. Boom! Very good design. Also never thought about the grey water draining away benefit on the tub. GREAT review as always Drew. We have the Joolca off-grid setup. We have the kitchen faucet and the shower head with the 12v pump as our water system in our Transit. We did not want to have any propane involved with our camper, so we did not use their Hottap heater. We just want to be able to rinse off dishes and likewise just rinse off in our pop up indoor shower. We could heat up water and mix inn a jerry can if we wanted to. Works great and is simple. I like that the pump will not burn up if it runs out of water. And it does not need an accumulator like many add to typical 12v water pumps.

Glad to see how a Joolca works even if I don't want to buy more stuff now. I have their single shower tent which I really like for the loo. It has a floor that I'm not wild about, but otherwise, it is excellent, a dark color that you can't see through. If I need a shower so far, I have a cheapie Ivation from Amazon.

I saw the Joolca when my little 5 gallon home water heater died, but I've been spoiled by Amazon and want to get my things right away delivered to my door. So I have the immersion heater in a 17 gallon tub sitting on the little water heater and a camp shower with the head going out where my regular show head was. It works great and I get a much longer shower. Camp shower pumps a gallon a minute. I can heat the water up to 150 degrees, checking it with an infrared thermometer. Shower temp at around 115 is good. But for camping I could heat a 5 gallon bucket of water in less than 15 minutes. If I could have got the Joolca in a couple of days I might have tried it out.

Wow, this is seriously amazing! Showers ARE important to me and that has been the hardest thing for me about tent camping. We're buying a square drop camper this fall and this looks like it might be an amazing option for us. I have a question for you. We've been looking for 20 amp Surge Protectors we can plug into the campground pedestals to protect our camper - but we haven't really found any. Do you use a surge protector when you plug in your teardrop camper? Or do you have one you would recommend?

*giggles* why does that look so familiar. Other little tricks - for those base-camping, you can set down a shipping pallet under the shower, or 'make" a simple shipping pallet style... it acts as a raised floor, so the water will flow down through, even if you get mud it won't be a problem, and in mid winter, your not standing on bare ground. For large sidewall tents you can do the shipping pallets too, but create or set up an "angeled" area so you can flow the water out one side of the tent. This also works great with "portable bathtubs you can you set up at one end of the tent a show + bath on one side, and composting/canister toilet on the other. No this doesn't qualify as "glamping" because if your in the field for 3 weeks as a base camp for hunting parties, having a shower and bath is REALLY nice to keep clean. Note, you can also "unscrew" the shower head in many cases and plug this into... Your portable Washing machine. Now you can do warm cycle washes in the field. Yes, you can set up a basecamp Sidewall tent like a cabin, in a mater of hours. Lot slower though most of it's all just storting stuff inside the tent once the tents up, running the interior walls, for the bathoom, shower room, setting up the cots, kitchen, and such. But again, if you are planning on staying in one spot for weeks rather then days, it might as well be comphy.

I ordered the kit without the sink in late April and it probably won't ship until the end of August (as of now). I agree, the sink uses too much water for me. I have the Joolca single shower tent and it was made to go with this heater so I'm looking forward to it. It's going to be a luxury for sure and smaller to store without the sink and faucet.

Love a hot water shower. Besides my DC refrigerator and popup shower tent, the instant hot water setup really adds quality-of-life to an extended boondocking experience (shower is owned now, but not been used in the wild yet). Yeah. The bin on this unit is cleaver, but it takes up a lot of room. Even the stand does not seem very space friendly. Hanging the just-rectangular instant hot water heater and using short hoses really cuts down on storage size. Multi-use buckets are already there.

Our thoughts exactly. This trip we have been running the ICECO fridge off of a Zamp solar panel and it has kept the lithium battery topped off all summer. I could hardly imagine going back to the soggy food and ice runs.

Yes, I found I didn’t have to drag the whole base around. Each time I looked down thinking I had to drag the base to get the hose to where I needed it, I realized I still had a little hose left. The one thing I would change is increase the length of the propane hose. With our propane tank attached to the teardrop it didn’t allow us a lot of room to move around. Basically meant creating a mud pile right next to the teardrop. Also with other showers we have used we found moving the hose up to the top of the tent, meant finding a way to get the base of the shower or pump up higher.

Solar generator (TBD) could be the portable power, but I need to think of a multifunctional item that makes hanging the heater portable. Thanks!

Drew - LOVE your vids so much, thank you! Hoping to get your input on showers. We often go to places that don't have running water and no natural water sources, either (i.e, desert). We would stay out longer except we both like/need showers too much, so we end up coming home after a few days just to shower. We have tried the Nemo shower, which works fine, but are wanting a more robust solution. We have (at least i THINK we have) narrowed it down to either the Road Shower (10 g) or the Joolca. The road shower seems like less hassle, but if we go to colder climate locations, i am concerned about the lack of hot water. :| The Joolca would certainly solve that but then we need to bring a separate water tank, which starts adding to the cargo loads. Do you have a recommendation as to which way we should go? I know it's probably a question we need to answer ourselves, but i would LOVE your input. Thank you so much!!!

We are kind of in a similar situation, but opposite. We are almost done building our new trailer. It has tons of storage space so I am installing the Joolca permanently in there. However, I am using the Joolca primarily for just heating hot water for sponge baths. And then the times we’re in extreme cold weather or just really needing the feel of a home shower we will be using the actual shower attachment. The more we travel the more I realize I prefer just a good old fashion sponge bath. So if I was in your situation, I would do it kind of like us, in that I would set it up for two scenarios. If I had limited space but wanted a hot shower I would aim for having a hot shower 75% of the time. The other 25% you can supplement by taking the road shower water and boiling it in a stove and putting that into a $15 solar shower bag. Or like us on those rare times you’re in colder weather, you could just do an old fashion sponge bath using your road shower water. The other alternative is to run your road shower water through one of those portable water heaters. I’m trying to think of the name right now. we used to have one. We mention it in our $30 camp shower video. I think they are either called zip hot water, heaters or Zodi hot water systems. They are also more affordable and similar shower systems like the Joolca from the brands, camp chef and camplux I believe. They are the original portable water heaters that Joolca essentially adopted. Sorry for the really poor response here I’m doing this all on my phone while getting ready to head out to Utah tomorrow to join up with the Bean crew. Hopefully this helps a little.

Lucky! That sounds like an amazing trip. May and I typically only camp for about a week and then go home for two days to reset. But, since we are homeless we have been in the Bean for a month straight before taking a three day break in a hotel this weekend. We actually find the bean to be like a little home on wheels. We will definitely be making a video about it in the future. But we absolutely love the Bean lineup. Especially, the little Beanstock model. We have always wanted A trailer that marries the benefits of fiberglass from the scamp with everything we love about traditional teardrops. No water intrusion, minimal maintenance, built to be handed down to your grandkids. I could go on and on. I think this might help you understand how much we value the trailer. Bean is the only trailer company we reached out to, to ask if we could take out one of their trailers full time. Meaning, with all the great teardrops in the country Bean was the one we felt fit our family best. And last, but this is a big one, my wife may refuses to leave the trailer. She is in love with everything about it, even though it’s quite small, she considers it home. And in terms of towing and living it’s the perfect fit for us. High enough clearance at 15 inches that I can get it over anything. But low enough, that we can comfortably cook and utilize the trailer when at camp.

We use a smaller sink! Or Inside Yes small basin. Yes have the Mount but there are high demand for the mount it will be at eight months or more delivery time.

Yes, we got our mount about 2-3 months after the shower system. It is really well built. Glad we picked it up. And really doesn't add any size to the on demand water heater. Nice and slim.

I really like this system for an off grid cabin. My worry is that since my cabin is empty most of the time small amounts of water inside will freeze and ruin it.

Yeah, my instant hot water heater talks about freezing in the manual, and it has a procedure to completely drain it. Simple.

I may be wrong, but I assume if you do your best to properly drain the water I wouldn't think moisture in the environment would be enough to build up and crack the components. But, like you this is the type of stuff I worry about when I make these purchases as well. The other worry I have, that I think I accidentally edited out of the video is pump life. I love the pump, but the question comes down to how long will it last. I am interested to hear all the comments on this video to see if anyone has pump issues. It seems really robust and well build, so I wouldn't be surprised if people are not having issues.

@@PlayingwithSticks They usually use a regular RV water pump. There are good quality and poor quality pumps (read $ or $$$). Replaceable (though special packaging may not make some easy to replace). However, dirt is a pump killer. Keep the sand out, and keep the filters clean and in good condition.

Hi Guys! Been absorbing information for a couple of weeks now, but this review prompts a couple of questions. 1 - Isn't that a hot water shower accessory on the Bean that you stuck the spray nozzle to? When will you review that and compare it to the Joolca? 2 - In the lower 48, we have Giardia issues with raw stream water. Not sure what the situation is in Alaska, but you do have moose doo-doo!?! I don't think the Joolca will filter out micro-organisms, and you should not bath or wash dishes in Giardia contaminated water. There are water filters (e.g., 12V Shurflo) on the market to make drinking water from streams/ponds/lakes. What do you think? Another product to evaluate?

FYI: fire.airnow.gov shows map of fire and smoke with clickable icons for details and more info. If allow it to grab your location, or you enter a location, it will tell you if any fires are detected by satellite within 150 miles. Info early in manual has typical photo of map with all features labeled, which was a great quick start, though a little playing accidentally got me part way there.

The cheap solar shower bags that we have were on sale at 2 for $9.95 in our local Anaconda, so I bought 10. I have seen them on sale as low as $4.00 each in Anaconda. We can solar heat up to 200L for the ensuite 12v shower system powered from our solar charged 1987 Cub Camp-O-Matic Offroad 380 camper trailer. If the water is not warm enough for a shower, it can be heated a bit more in a big stainless steel pot over a fire. Any empty bags are filled with the same 12v shower pump from a creek in the morning. I had a thought of joining 3 bags together with hose T pieces connected to just 1 nozzle for increased capacity and pressure without using any 12v power. We don't have any LPG system in our camper trailer, but we do have a few cheap gas canister camp stoves if not able to make an open fire. Regards, Jas. VK4FJGS

I no longer wash dishes in a bin of soapy water, because it uses too much water, and I seem to do more off grid camping in no-water deserts. I pre-clean dishes of all solids with previous rinse water, sand (cub scout trick), or paper towels (sometimes slightly used). I wash using a little bowl of really hot soapy water I dip a brush into and scrub each dish. I then rinse by pouring boiling hot water over it. The relatively clean slightly soapy rinse water is saved for pre-cleaning and heated for washing the next dishes. The soap coats oils and makes slippery to keep dirt from sticking and redepositing. The boiling water removes the soapy dirt and sterilizes. I use Ajax soap, because it needs less water to rinse off. I don’t use Dawn (except on really tough stuff), because it is too concentrated and needs too much water to rinse off.

Your system sounds great. We are big fans of our spray bottle system. But, if I don't hit the dishes the minute we are done eating some hot water would be great to have. I am going to have to experiment with your system. It sounds very promising.

@@PlayingwithSticks Yeah, immediately doing a quick pre-wash or even just spray with a bit of water so stuff does not dry on REALLY cuts down on cleaning. Thinking of using a big zip lock with just a bit of soapy water to shake around to pre-wash or just to keep moist until wash time would give me more time without stuff drying on.

It's great, but we really didn't use it that often. Mainly due to the cumbersome nature we mentioned in the video. However we have custom installed it in our new camper. So now it has a very minimal setup. So it will definitely get used more.

From manufacturer “The HOTTAP is designed with freshwater use in mind, using saltwater or brackish water can affect the internals and leave them susceptible to rust and corrosion. It won't cause total damage immediately but saltwater, for example, will certainly reduce the lifetime of the unit. If you need to use salt water we'd recommend rinsing HOTTAP with clean water after use to minimise the risk of long term damage to the internals. “

i’m trying to tone down my excitement and not sound gushy about it. But we absolutely love this trailer. We had purposely put Bean in the crosshairs for the trailer we wanted to use for an entire summer or longer. So we had pretty high expectations before picking it up. Definitely met and exceeded the expectations. We thought we LOVED teardrop life before. This just took it to another level for our family. And that’s saying a lot because we’re living in it full-time. We were worried about full-time life in a teardrop beings we usually come back once a week or every other week to reset in our home. Feels like we’re just towing our home behind us.

It’s AMAZING! Mark at Bean trailers has had s lot of inquiries from folks about how Subarus pair with a Bean Trailer. So lucky us. Right place, right time. Mark loaned us his brand new Wilderness to take her for a spin for a couple of months with the Beanstock and give him feedback. So far it is towing easier than with our jeep, it is a smoother ride off-road than our jeep, and of course we love all the room inside that a wagon offers.

Nothing like a hot shower when you have been camping for a week and only had sea water to bathe in, the kids were in heaven, well the Wife was even more so, to finally shampoo her hair Am looking for something now that is 12v, using a solar panel/s to heat water for showers in winter, when camping long term in the Aussie bush or forests, looking at a 12v element etc, hopefully I will come up with something, even if and when power goes out, cold showers, unhappy wife means unhappy life lol, now it is a grand daughter we want to make sure she has nice hot showers for hygiene etc (13) Cheers

It is a loaner that Bean provided us until we head out to Thailand. We were in a bit of a pickle with the move and having no trailer. The thought of not having a teardrop for the summer sounded awful. As you are aware from our conversations we have had our eye on Bean trailers the last couple of years after falling in love with the fiberglass design of the Scamp and getting to experience the offroad components of Valiant Trailers in Alaska. Bean seemed to combine the two. But the big thing for us is that we wanted the ability to add the offroad accessories like the tent, awning, shower, oversized tongue box, but we didn't want all the clearance and extra weight. So that is why we leaned toward the Bean Stock model. Low enough for us to cook and tow comfortably, but high enough at 15" of clearance to get us anywhere we wanted to go. I was really surprised to see the composite teardrop from Escapod. Surprised in a good way. Really hoping to take it out in August if they have it ready by then.

@@PlayingwithSticks That Bean looked pretty cool for sure. Yes, I was very surprised about the new escapod. Surprised that they are building a new model and sort of shocked at the price. Wow! Dummy me, just thinks producing a one-piece fiberglass shell is akin to injecting some glass and plastic into a mold and just stamping them out. How could they possible be more expensive than lumber, aluminum and LABOR. But as soon as it came out I thought of you because of the fiberglass. Safe travels!

I’m so glad though that they are sticking with the original Topo as well. They have refined that original one to the point, where it would be really hard to beat it in the market. Traditional off-road Teardrop builders have a lot of work to do to catch up to the bar they set.

We literally have these in bathrooms in China since no one has room for a hot water heater. Sometimes people get CO2 poisoning and are found dead in the shower due to it burning gas.

Yes, that’s why I find us rarely taking it out. I think it’s a great set up if mounted permanently or using once or twice a year for long trips. But taking from site to site it’s a bit overkill for us.
