I have owned 2 bread machines that found their way to charity simply because the bread either failed or didn’t look or taste good. I have failed at trying to make it by hand, I think I don’t get liquid right temperature because it never rises. I recently bought a yeast thermometer. I like that you are just using dough feature, great idea! That never occurred to me.

I’ve made 3 batches of hot cross buns in the last few weeks, each from a different bread machine recipe. They were OK, but none of them quite met my expectations. This recipe was by far the best and I can now stop searching. I was sceptical of the quick-rise yeast and the use of oil rather than butter but, other than increasing the spices a bit and using a raisin/dried fruit combo, stuck to the recipe and am I ever glad I did. So fluffy and delicious! It was the first time I piped on the dough crosses and glazed with simple syrup rather than making icing crosses. This is now my go-to recipe and method. Thanks for the video. Your buns look lovely. I would caution people not to jump the gun and add the raisins at the beginning. I did that once with raisin bread. The paddle broke the raisins into tiny litte bits! Tasted ok but not a good look! A Blesed Easter to everyone.

I enjoy your channel so much! I don't have a bread maker but this recipe was easy to adapt to regular prep. We had these for Easter every year. My Mum used to save the citron she bought in the store over the Christmas holidays as we were English transplants to Texas and as you said it was impossible to find the citron at Easter. I love to watch you cook. My Mum also used to keep a chop stick in her flour bin for leveling and I do the same. Thanks for sharing your channel!

It's easier to zest if you hold the fruit in your hand and run the rasp on top of the fruit. You'll be able to see what you're doing without having to keep turning the fruit over. Then turn the rasp over and dump it into the machine's pan.

Yesterday I made a batch and the dough came out perfect even though I didn’t have vanilla or ground cloves. So today I bought them and another orange. The dough came out so sticky. I thought should put it thru the dough menu again with flour or put it on the table and worked it in flour. So now I’m waiting for it to raise and then cook them. I hope I did the right thing.

Yes. I mix my SD in the bread machine when creating a “kneaded” dough. But only bake in oven. BM is especially handy for mixing the Levan stage: mix, cover pan and put in refr overnight. Take out in morning, give it an hour to come to room temp and proceed with ingredients and mixing. Very handy. Only one thing to wash up after.

Will these work just as well or will it change the flavor or texture?/ I have used my bread machine 2-3 times and I do not like the bread recipes I have tried! Hmm, I tried using bread flour and bread machine yeast but didn't care for the texture of the bread. Bread flour has more protein which is what changes it a bit. I only use all purpose flour now.

Seems like a lot of yeast to me, as i only use 1.5 tsp to 4 cups of flour for my bread dough. 4 tsps seems a lot.
