WARMING UP TO SNOWY SHOPPING | THRIFT & VENDOR MALL | ANTIQUING
Part of being The Antique Nomad is going where the weather is great for antiquing! This video is a cool departure from that, as a rare winter trip north results in unexpected weather...and an unexpected bunch of finds at an Evansville, Indiana indoor flea market.
We're chilling at the His and Hers thrift mall today, a market where over 100 vendors bring new, used, antique and vintage items that range from the really cheap to the really cool! We ice some great deals along the way, including an overlooked depression glass bowl, a droopy dog from Arkansas and a glass with a delicious Shmoo from the 1940s.
There's stone cold bargains and hot vintage goodies in this mall, and we find a few specialists that surprise us...a modernist dealer with good 1950s Heywood-Wakefield furniture, a case devoted exclusively to antique scales and a wall full of Victorian friendship mugs are fun surprises. In the end, we leave with our hearts warmed and our bags filled with goodies we expect to turn into cold, hard cash!
Here's some of the fun vintage and collectable finds along the way:
1960s copper toy oven, 1860s copper luster pitcher, 1910s toy piano, vintage radios, 1950s battery-operated car, machinist tool set, Tlaquepaque pottery, Sascha Brastoff kiva ashtray, Fenton swung vase, church pulpit, Jeanette Constellation basket, McCoy tulip wall pocket, torsion scales, modernist corner tiered table, Haeger ewer, MarCrest Wheat dinnerware, Fenton custard 'uranium' glass, Starlight cobalt console bowl, Penguin hot/cold keeper, S&H Green Stamps sign, glass mailbox, Fenton hobnail milk glass banana boat, Blenko ruffled vase, Niloak vase, Camark dog, Pyrex gold butterfly, Pilgrim cranberry glass, golf clubs, American Bisque Sequoia Ware, Keen Cutter paper cutter, Marx train waiting station, cash register, Dutch girl baby food warmer, Abingdon console set, Bristol glass, Italian floral chandelier, Japanese cork and bark pictures, 1970s purses, 1970s Raggedy Ann and Andy collectibles, campaign table, Margie doll case, croquet sets, railroad and stop lights, road signs, 1930s 'waterfall' vanity, Rodney Kent butter dish, Hall China refrigerator jars, Pac Man handheld game, John Perry dolphins, B.C. cookie jar, Cook's Beer sign, etc.

Hi George & Xeno. Welcome back to winter...brrr 🥶 Actually, the next couple of days isn't gonna be too bad & might even melt my leftover snow. I've been to L👀ky L👀ky in Evansville, but not to His & Her's, which was a lil pri💲ey pri💲ey. I spied a large Snoopy @ 10:24 in the same booth you were explaining the opalescent vase. I love all things Peanuts & opalescent, too, for that matter. That's interesting how they get the opal color. Is it ever glowy? That lil piano was precious. Thanks for the take along, interesting as usual.

I love that you mentioned the town Elma, Washington!! My parents (both raised in Hoquiam) lived there prior to my brother & being born (we were born in Aberdeen:). In fact, my mom had her first teaching job at the Elma grade school. What's even more fun about Elma, WA is my grandfather on my father's side, (whom was deceased prior to my birth), had a restaurant there, but the restaurant was really a cover-up for his large boot-legging business! Also, the restaurant had a pinball machine & my father learned to count to 7 by playing it & he was quite proud of himself. When he started school, he bragged to the teacher that he could count to 7 & the teacher actually slapped him when he told her how he learned! (What child is allowed to play pinball?!?!) These are all fun family stories I've been told my whole life, so to hear you mention Elma was really fun!! xo

Hi George! That Goofus Glass vase with the bird is one piece of Goofus I've never owned, and I've owned a lot of Goofus. I've always wanted a Czech salt box, with the Czech language on it. Mother has four of those Tupperware bowls/plates. I liked that small showcase in the case where the railroad lantern was. Loved the older croquet set. I have an antique set of campaign candle holders. They screw apart and the actual holders screw into the separate sides, they are inlaid with a man on one side and a woman on the other. Never seen a campaign table before. Was that a small refrigerator in the corner of the 20% off booth? I want the toy piano! Loved that one! I don't care if one of the keys doesn't play. I liked most of those friendship mugs. Those would make a great display all on one shelf. That glass mailbox was neat. I wouldn't mind having that. Some really interesting items there. Thanks for taking us along!

I like the goofus bird! I'll look for a Czech salt for you, I see them on occasion. I haven't seen a campaign candle holder before, I'll have to look that up myself! I did think highly of the looks and age of the piano, for display it'd be terrific. Also thought about taking a shelf full of Friendship mugs but I have to be careful about overstocking, there's only a few shows left this season! Thank you for coming along-

Dude, as the woman in the house where ALL the power tools are hers, careful with the 'women, here's the kitchen' talk. I'd rather get a Milwaukee sawzall for Christmas than a bottle of perfume.

That is awesome and I agree! I only said it because 80 percent of my viewers are women and at least half don’t think garage items have value

@@TheAntiqueNomad They should have a look at KZbinrs like DIY Danie! So much inspiration.

Careful, George. Some women love tools. Some of my favorite KZbinrs are female DIY queens with woodworking, welding, and construction skills that could best just about anyone! I love and appreciate your videos, but stereotypes aren't cool.

I do agree completely! I know women who are very handy and I know women who collect tools. I only say what I do because I have women who also say, “Why do you show all this guy stuff?”, and so it gets in my head that it’s more one way than another…but in reality, we know that anyone could love anything

Your "friend" shopping with you does not add positive value to the video. I find him irritating and disjunctive.Not a good idea, bad companion, and would be basis of stopping any shopping adventure...

@TheAntiqueNomad

Really? I didn't actually buy much, and I don't sell there, so I'm not sure where you come up with that conclusion. I like to show my audience lots of different kinds of items, some are resellers and want to see what it's really like when you're out in a flea market. It's perfectly fine for you to have different tastes, but I don't know whether you can expect Tiffany chandeliers and Hermes scarves...you might want to watch my videos of high end antique shows to see what is sold alongside me there if you prefer that caliber of merchandise.

@@TheAntiqueNomad I´ve watched a lot of your programmes. You mostly deal in the same sort of stuff. Sorry if I was a bit over acerbic. I enjoy your programmes, even if most of the stuff is not interesting. Some of it might be in a hundred years or so. I may not be around, but, in the event that I am, I´ll remember to clap and cheer.
