Hot Fishing in Cooks Run - Michigan's Upper Peninsula

Cooks Run is a designated Blue Ribbon trout stream and a tributary to the South Branch Paint River in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It runs thru the Ottawa National Forest and access is plentiful via Highway 2, Highway 16 and Basswood Road. It is one of the few spring creeks in the area and is primarily a brook trout fishery with an occasional brown trout.

love your vids! Hit Cooks Run 3 years ago, caught a couple brookies. We just got a new RV and our spring trip will be the UP and probably go through there. I fish Pigeon River Country for the opener because we have trout camp on the Black every year. Close to home (Alpena) but we have a couple UP trips planned for next season. Next week we may go up chasing fall colors (and salmon!)

If you enjoy the U.P., read the books of Robert Traver. He wrote beautiful stories up fishing the U.P. He also wrote that "kiss and tell fishermen" who tell their spots to the whole world are of the same caliber as men who sleep with women and then tell everyone about it. Think about it.

Most trout guys are catch and release, we like to share the resource. Telling someone about a stretch of river isn't the same as showing them a hole. Besides, it's a blue ribbon trout stream highlighted on every stream map in Michigan and on those Trout Trail apps. If it was a "secret" spot I could see your point.
