I agree with the reply. If this was the only Efren match with Danny commentating you've watched, I could see why you'd think that. He doesn't hate him at all though. He's his favorite player and he always speaks highly of Efren. Danny can just be a little too straight forward sometimes. I actually like that about him. If someone shoots a bad shot, call it a bad shot. Everyone shoots bad shots sometimes. Even the great Efren Reyes.

I am trying to learn 1-pocket and have read the rules but I don’t seem to be able to figure out the reasoning that the 10-ball was put back on the foot spot at the 1:20:17 mark... @@archico01 IMO, they don’t understand how offensive the game has become. I learned the game working at Grady Mathews pool room in SC and the game that their generation played ( and was awesome at) is no longer played. The top players now have much better equipment and shooting abilities that surpassed those guys. Example, in their generation, the break was always considered worth two balls. Now everyone can get out of the break. But like I said, this is just my opinion.

@eejoon1

These commentators are definitely knowledgeable and are great players, but there's a difference between good playing and good commentating. Commentary for sports seem to fall into either near real-time play-by-plays or post-play analyses, with commentators only guessing about what will happen by exception. Pool, probably because of its slower pace, seems to do the exact opposite. My problem is that these gents can't seem to help but constantly try to predict the future with imperfect information, often devolving into a back-and-forth about whose personal preference for a specific shot is better. The announcers themselves often say that they can't tell what a certain shot looks like from where they are, so I can see why a lot of people are annoyed when the announcers start down this path. Pool culture seems to be hurting as it is (at least where I live) and even though I have access to an epic match like this, it sucks that I feel more inclined to talk about the commentators instead of the pool. Yes, I can turn off the sound and ignore the commentary if I don't like it, but the fact remains that how pool culture is presented can strongly impact its popularity. It's apparent that a lot of people were bothered by the commentary, so it seems worth addressing. Ultimately, I just want people to love the game and appreciate its beauty as much as I do. Also, every pool video ever posted has an intro that looks like it's from the 1980's. Long rant. WOOT.

First one to make 8 balls in their pocket wins. If you foul you spot a ball. If you have no balls to spot you owe one. You will see them mark their pocket usually by setting a coin next to it. Pockets are established by whoever breaks. They will break towards their hole

These are 5 really excellent games of one pocket by two masters of the game. At 1:05:30, Efren was not trying to make both balls. He was trying to reposition the 1-ball off the point for a bank for AFTER he pocketed the 15 on the billiard. Genius Idea that didn't quite work out. I'm surprised Billy didn't figure this one out.

He tried to kick it off the low point of the pocket up along the side rail where he could bank it home if he pocketed the duck in his own hole off the billiard. It was not a mental blunder- It was an attempt at a brilliant shot that didn't quite work. Efren playing 3-D chess...Everyone else still playing checkers.

One Pocket. Each player must pocket 8 balls into their assigned pocket which are the two pockets at the bottom. Players swap pockets per game

@@eddiejohnston1853 Because the game would take too long. It’s hard enough pocketing eight balls in the same pocket without having to take solids or stripes. But now that you’ve asked, I just might try a game like that tonight. Could be interesting!

@@archico01 Tell me about it! It’s a game that makes me feel stupid, but it is improving my other games because of the banking and kicking and soft shooting-or it was, back in the days when we could actually play. My cues are getting cobwebs. 🎱

I was only able to make it 30 minutes into this video before the commentary gave me a splitting headache from the sheer annoyance. They never shut up, these pool videos are always ruined by this kind of commentary. Having to turn over the sound and losing the natural sounds of cue/balls/etc is not the same…

You and your opponent each get one top corner pocket to make 8 out of the 15 balls in to win. It’s moving chess!! The pocket you get is designated by which pocket the person breaking, pushes the balls towards. That’s why there’s so many safeties and the moving of balls from one side of the table to the other!

Left to his own devices Bill Incardona is a decent and enjoyable commentator. However his so-called special guest, Danny Diliberto, is a disaster who brings out the worst in him by getting him to argue. The two of them talk and shout and it makes the whole thing very disagreeable. Diliberto ought to be banned from ever commenting on another pool game again. I don't know whether he does it deliberately or just doesn't understand, but he calls everything wrong. He claims shots are going to go in that aren't, he claims that Efren can't do things that he obviously can, and so on. He may have the skill to play tournament pool but he obviously does not have the skills to commentate in a way that people want to listen to him.
