This was so helpful! You verbalized feelings I hadn’t really consciously acknowledged. I don’t like an uncomfortable, heavy, bulky coat AND I don’t like to be cold AND when I get ready and I haven’t invested in coats for years because I live in a warmer climate, I always get caught feeling frumpy bc I haven’t given enough thought to my coats!

I also have a large collection of coats many which are also thrifted. Another favorite of mine to wear in the winter are stylish vests…I have puffer vests,Sherpa vests and faux fur vests…they are great because they enhance the outfit without adding a lot of bulk to your outfit. Another thing I add to my coats is a pin on the lapel …it is a small but sharp addition to my outfit. Again enjoy your video.

You talk a lot about mindset and I find you inspiring. I live in WI and experience all 4 seasons and love this video as the older I get; 64, the harder it is to embrace winter, be stylish and stay warm. You are trim and healthy. Can you share what a typical day looks like for you? I think many would enjoy learning a bit more about you 😊

This video resonated with me so much! While I live in Southern California and don’t need a wardrobe of winter coats, I have encountered the same struggle and reluctance you did but with the infamous “third layer”….finding pieces that felt authentic and appropriate and complemented what I already had has been a process! You’ve given me some great ideas and food for thought!❤

I loved this video! Such excellent advice and ideas. We have winter about 7 months of the year in Montana and it can be really cold. I have a few coats -- some I love, some not so much. You've inspired me to take a look at the thrift shop or my favorite consignment shop for a new-to-me happy winter coat! I agree with you that a good coat or jacket can make winter months more bearable. I love your furry cream coat. THANK YOU, Kristin.

I live in Texas so my coats only get used for a few short weeks in January and February. My favorite coats are thrifted: a steel blue wide wale corduroy coat with velvet cuffs and collar from.J.Crew; a black baby wale corduroy J.Jill coat with a gray paisley print, a chocolate brown long coat with beautiful embroidery on the shoulder and hem from an L.A..designer, and a black puffer coat with a big fuzzy hood if it gets really frigid. And finally, my pride and joy is a thrifted vintage camel hair short coat with beautiful buttons and a sash. I love cold weather clothes.🤗 and I adore your coat collection!!!

I have exactly what I need for each scenario from casual to super dressy, and it has really helped with my mood. I also wear a lot of color in the winter. Great video!

Ha Ha. I had a daughter in law who hated winter after moving from Nevada. She protested by refusing to buy a winter coat. Not an easy choice while living in WI. We bought her a large heave scarf, a warm hat, and good mittens.

I had a wonderful A-line, cream color wool coat in high school that was empire style with gold buttons down the front and knife pleats falling from a back yoke, a hand-me-down from my older sister - loved it, as well as the red, green and blue plaid "maxi coat" fashionable then. I wished I fit in my mother's gorgeous tan cashmere coat with the incredibly thick satin lining, bound buttonholes and leather buttons that I donated after she passed away - hope someone has been enjoying it! You named the challenge and met it with your coat collection. I've been looking for a full-length one - the hunt continues...

Forgot to say I do live in Philadelphia, and it is indeed cold and gray right now! However, I love snow (maybe because I'm part Norwegian 😄?)and hope we have a decent amount this year - beautiful blue skies and a snowy landscape are so pretty to me.

I so loved this video so much Kristen! Trench coats don't suit my style, but I thrifted an orange one and had it altered. I'm only 5 feet tall so there was a lot of moving of belted straps, etc. I really love how it turned out, and it makes venturing out in blah autumn weather easier to take.

Great video, Kristen - really enjoyed it and now I don't need to feel guilty about My coat collection. ALASKA is where I live and I need a wide range of coats for my different needs. Winter temps. vary between mid 30's to -60 degrees. Granted when it is negative 40 or colder we do not prioritize fashion and I agree with you about needing bright color in the middle of Winter. I yearn for color and sparkle and shine in the long dark days. And since I have discovered thrifting I am always on the hunt for good quality Vintage wool coats. My latest coat is a Vintage olive green wool swing coat with a blond mink color that I wear with my rhinestone blue cat eye glasses. Oh and my latest wild and exciting find is a Kate Spade orange coat with faux fur trim that I paid $28.00 and worth $400 - $600. It is in new/never worn condition. WHO donates these things !!??

Great video, thank you. I used to cycle to work and really only had one coat that was suitably warm and water proof - Lands End parka. I have a wool dark grey button up coat for dressier occasions and that’s it. Would love to find a long camel colored coat, as I now live in a sunnier place, and drive more, but the cold is still real. Boden does terrific hot pink wool coats, they have them almost every year. Expensive, but well made.

I really need to stop buying them lol I have leather (multiple styles and colors), down, Eddie Bauer, Calvin Klein, LL Bean, vintage Pendleton, vintage Macintosh, vintage Aigner, real full length mink (bought 2nd hand - it’s gorgeous!!), faux fur - everything under the sun!! I live in a small city in Alaska and sometimes the Thrift stores do not yield anything worth taking home, But other times I hit a Gold Mine of treasures. I find Vintage wool coats at my Salvation Army and at my Value Village in Fairbanks, AK. Some I keep and most I resell at my little Vintage and upcycled clothing booth at the Antique shop. Go often and keep an open mind. They are out there !
@ok4442Ай бұрын
I only came up with one explanation for myself, the saleswomen buy it themselves if they find a really good piece of clothing, because I haven't found anything special in the whole time. Besides, if I worked there, I would do the same.

I know wealthy women who will buy kislux replicas. The main reason they give is that they simply understand the value of money and don't want to spend too much on a bag...especially a trendy one. They do, however, spend a lot of money on fine jewelry and other things.
@maryrose7842Ай бұрын
You did great thrifting those coats. You certainly won’t be bored this winter and the bonus of paying so little for them must make you feel good 😊. The green one for 3$ looks great on you. I bought a new coat this year and then I accidentally came across two more in a thrift store. They were not as cheap as the ones you bought though. Only problem was both of them need to have the sleeves shortened. 🫤
