You know Tony, I like you, thanks for sharing me with your nephew. I really don’t want a bed rep so I try to be as realistic as possible and I don’t want to put out info that make it seem like you can make money but you can’t. With the CDL I have now I make better money and I’m about to release those numbers. But I did start non cdl and now that I know what I know, I highly recommend CDL from the get go.

Been trucking for over 15 years. Don’t take cheap freight. Bad part is brokers know you are new when they run your numbers. Brokers will take advantage because they know you don’t have much of an option. Bills don’t stop coming. Take cheap freight it’ll come back to bite you. You’ll only bring down the market.

Seems like the insurance alone is a killer. I met a guy in SC that does hotshot with a F350. He started a couple years ago. First year insurance was $16,000, 2nd year was $12,000 due to good safety record. So safety is highly important! Accidents and traffic violations could put you out of business due to increasing insurance rates. Thanks for laying all this out for all to see

My dad started out driving in an old Ford F350 stake bed. We brought that truck home (early 80’s) for a few hundred bucks. We took off the stake bed, made a diamond plate deck, installed a hitch, new paint (he was a former body shop mechanic so that was an easy job to do) new tires, and freshened up the engine with hoses spark plugs wires etc. I honestly don’t remember the size trailer he had but he was able to make $ with a paid for truck. Having payments is gonna drastically eat into your profits, it’s gonna force you to stay out longer and longer. You’re going to have to pass up on certain loads because it won’t cover your costs. I know it’s hard to find trucks that can handle the abuse and still be affordable.
