The Mark III is still my favorite Iron Man armor. It's just so iconic and it gives me nostalgia of the first Iron Man movie and the fact that they actually had scenes where it was practical instead of CGI makes ot so much better.

As time went by the designs became too sleek, the Mark 3 had just the right balance of mechanical function and hot rod style. When I think of Ironman that's the image the comes to mind.

The Mark 3 is the only suit that they took on a mechanical engineering approach to. They actually made the whole suit, where the rest were just pieces and filled in with CGI later. It is arguably the most bad ass looking suit with the mk7 a close second.

Yeah. I think I'm more positive towards the later suits, especially the nano-suits, than most, simply because I like how blatantly comic-booky they are, but there's no beating the practical look and feel of the originals.

The Mark 3 had dark maroon paint rather than red. But Hot Toys and other toy companies never get it right. The first Hot Toys Mark 3 released back in 2009 had the correct maroon paint. But still, this one looks much better than the awful 1.0 candy apple Mark 3 released in 2015.

Oh man I've been eagerly waiting for this vid, as I really wanted to see the paint work under your lighting! Great review Justin. I'm trying to come up with reasons not to buy this, cos it looks stunning and... nostalgia. 1 - I wish they had've done the same base as the Mk 1 & new classic comics Iron Man, just so there was a bit more continuity with the releases. The Justice League figures all look amazing on the identical stands. How good would Mk 1, 2 & 3 look all on those stands?? 2 - I would have liked a head / helmet with the flip up magnetic visor. 3 - A shame we didn't get USB lighting. There are some great customisers doing it (I dont mean Fusion reactors etc. Its just 1 plug & wire for all the lights) but its an expensive process and it can limit the articulation slightly. Maybe one day Hot Toys? I never realised how tiny Mech Test Tony is! Wow. Tiny Tony. And a new Mk 2 must happen now!

The quarter scale Mark 3 suit is eventually going to be worthless because Hot Toys WILL release a 2.0 of that one (and ONLY that one as far as quarter scale Iron Mans go) at some point. Why? Because it's the wrong size. Just like a lot of their early sixth scale Iron Man figures were undersized (and these newer sixth scale releases such as the Mark 7 and now these 2.0 versions are noticeably taller/larger than the earlier/original releases), the Mark 3 quarter scale is much smaller than it should be. I own all of the currently available quarter scale Hot Toys Iron Man figures and the Mark 3 is noticeably shorter than all of the other suits. I first realized this when I lined up all of my quarter scale Iron Mans to take a picture of them to show a friend. The Mark 3 is at least a half inch shorter than the Mark 42, 43, 45 and now the new Mark 4 quarter scale figures as well. And obviously it's not just shorter, it's smaller in ALL dimensions. It really looks like crap if you just line them all up in a full height standing position. I strongly suspect that this is why the Mark 2 quarter scale figure has taken such a ridiculously long time to release. It was first announced all the way back in 2019 I believe. FIVE YEARS AGO! And it's STILL not even available for pre-order. My suspicion is that their initial plan was to just make the Mark 2 quarter scale figure using the already-completed Mark 3 quarter scale molds...because, obviously, they are the exact same suit with just different paint colors. That's why Hot Toys immediately released a Mark 2 2.0 sixth scale figure after releasing the Mark 3 2.0 shown in this vid...because they're the same suit and that saves them a bunch of money on manufacturing costs. But with an emphasis now being made on the 2.0 versions of the sixth scale Iron Man figures and those new figures being the "correct" height/size/scale, I think Hot Toys changed their minds about simply making the quarter scale Mark 2 out of the current quarter scale Mark 3 tooling, and what they are going to do instead is create an entirely NEW tooling for the Mark 2 quarter scale figure that is the same size/scale as all of the other quarter scale figures (the Marks 42, 43, 45, 4 and upcoming 6), and then once they've released the new, correctly-sized Mark 2 quarter scale figure, they will then circle back and make a new "2.0" version of the Mark 3 quarter scale figure that is the "correct" size/scale. And when that happens, the original Mark 3 quarter scale figures will become pretty much worthless, just like the older, smaller sixth scale versions of all of these Iron Man suits have become nearly worthless thanks to the new 2.0 releases. Factory sealed Mark 2 sixth scale figures were selling for $800 or $900 prior to the announcement of the 2.0 version of that suit. Now those same sellers are desperately trying to get $400 for their factory sealed "1.0" Mark 2 sixth scale figures because nobody wants them anymore. I strongly suspect that the same thing will happen with the original quarter scale Mark 3 figure, it's just a question of when. I will probably wait until the Mark 2 quarter scale figure releases and I have it in my hands before I put my Mark 3 quarter scale up for sale. If the new Mark 2 quarter scale figure is larger than the Mark 3, then I'll know for sure that I was correct, and I'll know for sure that a "2.0" version of the Mark 3 quarter scale figure in the correct size/scale will eventually be coming.

I think the dart launchers will be the same BUT if they turn out to be the right way round, they’re yours if you want them (or indeed if they’re wrong and you fancied trying to “fix”).

Nice review Justin. It’s a shame that the shoulder guns aren’t assembled properly. If you would look back at the promo photos a year ago, the prototype’s guns are assembled backwards as well. I hope they would have it corrected moving forward.
