Coat the surface with some Honda Silicone grease. Prevents the black dome from cracking even further. ;)

When he's rubber dome and joint gaskets split 😱 worry not he can be fully repaired! I rebuilt mine and he looks better than new 😁😎

There's a variant of modge podge sealer that if a thin coat is applied to the dome, it hardens it and eliminates the notorious cracking while giving the dome a nice sheen. I did it years ago after researching some forums and my ED still looks great. There's a few vids on youtube with instructions.

It's been treated so it's now holding up very well.
