Somewhat of a retread on the VW scene. My grandfather had a '59 and a '65. My first was a a '68 in '73. My second was a '66 westy split, my 3rd was a '66 1300. Then life happened. My 4th one is now a '71 super and I'm also building a 1915cc for it with the help of Prescott Phillips here in Wisconsin. All I need is time to get it finished and started. Great startup video! Thanks!

what kind of temps are you expecting and from which locations being read.
@VWJawbreaker4 жыл бұрын
VW Life I like to measure exhaust temps on all cylinders to ensure they are close, that helps dictate if I have a miss or possible intake leak, etc. from there I also like to check the engine case temp, running 20 minutes at 2500rpm I like to see it staying under 215 degrees. Also like to measure head temp to get an idea how it’s running and tuned also.

I check exhaust temps to ensure all cylinders are firing and running about the same temp since it’s dual carbs. Mostly to check the engine temp and make sure it’s not running too hot or anything unusual. Thanks man, this one was pretty sweet. Hello VW Bug world, I’m pulling out a ford pinto engine 2.3, out of my Rail buggy and getting a 1915 Cc VW stock engine, it’s about time, it’s a dual carb and being installed by a 50 year plus experienced VW mechanic! My question is, He’s installing stock carbs and a stock muffler! What modifications are best to have my mechanic Install. as he spends the next 2 weeks installing my new Engine into my rail buggy? Thanks so much ! Please be as specific possible !
@VWJawbreaker4 жыл бұрын
DeeLyriuz Holmes sounds like he’s just working at his pace or when he has time for your project. I doubt he’s installing a stock carb setup if he’s installing dual carbs since dual carbs have always been an aftermarket thing. Size of the carbs and exhaust depends on the details of the engine, not just the size of the engine. What made you decide to pull the ford engine from your rail?
@deelyriuzholmes7974 жыл бұрын
VWJawbreaker it’s a dual port, my terminology is crossed! I basically bought it as a total project it had four wheels , frame ,bad brakes, no wires , broken axle , no front brakes no fuel pump no spark and a 2.3 Pinto engine. After getting it registered legalized and insured and enjoying driving it around I’ve definitely got a blown head gasket and I’ve excepted that it needs to be rebuilt, so instead of investing the money to rebuild a Pinto engine I’m going with a Volkswagen Engine! He’s working me in working while on other projects all at the same time , it helps out with making two payments versus all at once ! he knows Volkswagens better than anybody in this area. Just thinking how I can get more horsepower out of it moving forward in the future I’ve been joyed your videos you’ve got a great helper as your son you’re very detailed and thorough which is inspiring me to go ahead and do a Volkswagen engine feeling that I can work on it myself thanks so much for your feedback.
