There's nothing like hot water cornbread if you know how to make it. it's a lost art, AND a lost recipe for most descendants of grandmothers who made this to accompany fresh greens, cabbage, all kinds of peas. OMG it's so wonderful to have any kind of instruction about how to really make them, and the cooking method. This is so helpful. Thank God for the Ms. Brenda's still left to guide us in the "old way" of cooking delicious down home dishes.

I love the way you measure ingredients, just like my mother, just eyeball it she always said, it will be fine. This recipe takes me back some 50+ years. Sunday meals of Pork roast, white beans with smoked ham , turnip greens from the garden with sliced turnips on the top and hog jowls, cabbage and Mom’s Hot Water Cornbread. Moms near 84 now, still kicks around the kitchen daily, eats simple country food 7 days a week. I’m just an ole white boy that went to college and grew up on simple food, the BEST food, cooked from the heart with love and best of all, SOUL. Thank you so very much for the video Ma’am, I’m cooking Salmon patties tonight, in an old cast iron skillet, black eye peas, cabbage and Hot Water cornbread. God Bless and Thank you again.

It's funny when people comment talking about Ms Brenda Dee this isn't authentic. Duh thats why it says in the title "My way... Not Authentic." So start reading the title. Recipes evolve every single day. Just because her recipe is not like yours doesn't mean it is not a good recipe. It is one thing to give her a tip it's another to just wanna have something to say. For goodness sake please just leave it alone! If you don't like the recipe dont watch it.

Ms. Brenda, I was born and raised here in the Great Smokey Mountains, spent many, many years in the Army and moved back here to raise my family and all this time I had never heard of Hot Water Cornbread or seen it made or even tasted it. From viewing your video and watching you make and cook them, I have come to the realization that I have missed out on one of the Seven Wonders Of The World, Ms. Brendas Hot Water Cornbread! Thank you for taking the time to make this video and enlighten us on how to make them. If The Good LORD is willing and the creek does not rise I will be trying to make me a batch. They probably won't taste as good as yours but I'm sure going to give it a try. I'm also going to subscribe to your channel and watch all of your cooking videos. I pray Almighty GOD will bless you, your family and friends and keep you all safe and well during and after this beer virus crisis. FATHER, I ask YOU to place a Protective Fire around Ms. Brenda and her family and friends, as you did for the Israelite's to stop Favro and his army as they crossed the parted sea. FATHER let that virus burn up when it comes near Ms. Brenda and family and friends, too never reach them. FATHER, I ask this in the Name Of YOUR SON JESUS CHRIST, our LORD, SAVIOR, and KING! FATHER let all who read this come under YOUR protection as well and their families and friends. Amen! Take care, Ms. Brenda!

Thank you for this video. I lost my receipe for hot water cornbread.. My grandmother, mother, aunts made it from memory. It comes in handy, when you run out of bread. It can be made thin, but not paper thin. They used this recipe for hush puppies, but added minced onion and green pepper. They also added, Cajun spice. When,I started making hot water cornbread,I would try different spices and add assorted spices . There is nothing like the original receipe. So thank you, for your great videos. Your hot water cornbread is so beautiful. My grandmother and mother's look like pancakes.Your's look like hush puppies, except a patty, rather than a ball. Will you do Salmon croquettes and biscuits and your hush puppies?

She raised 4 girls single in the 1950's without the benefit of any "entitlement" programs. It was a hard road for all of us but we were blessed to come out on the other side. I pray that you had a good support system from other family members. Blessings to you sweet lady.

Unfortunately who she left me with dropped the ball and I ended up in the state system and left my family for 12 yrs he orchestrated people around me to help amd guide me along the way .. Lors knows it wasnt easy and I had a hard time excepting being loved he still hv me people for my life. I'm married 20 yrs now with 4 kids and thru those trials I am the mother I am today its still hurts because I only rem her sick ..but when I saw this video I rem so clearly being in the kitchen with the cast iron pan that tub of crisco and making this cornbread made me happy bcuz I had blocked out sooo much from the past because I wasnt goin to allow the hurt to stunt me in my life so I appreciate the little things in life like video of cornbread lol

Ms Brenda Dee thank you so much for your hot water cornbread recipe. I have never had it before since I grew up in New Jersey and New York. I love southern cooking. I ate these with some turnip greens with smoked turkey wings. Love dipping them in the pot liquor, so delicious. Love that it comes together so quickly.
