I had several. In 1970 or so got a set for Christmas...same year I got an AFX Slot Car Set. What to do next? Adapt the Sizzlers to run on the Slot Car Track. Yes, it can be done. BTW, that drive shaft is called the armature of the motor. To clean up the corrosion on the commutator (the part that contacts the leads from the battery) for YEARS on the same can-style/inline slot cars we take 2,000 grit sand paper, cut it in thin strips to match the size of the commutator, chuck up the armature shaft in a rotary tool and at low speed wrap the strip around the com and polish it to a shine. Works like a charm. Thanks for sharing!!

The collar your scraping is called a Commutator. You shouldn't scrape it, best bet is to Chuck the armature( what your calling a driveshaft) in a drill and polish the Commutator with some 1500 grit or higher. Then use the knife to clean the crud from the 3 slots in the comm. Blow out the dust and reassemble, make sure you keep the endbell orientated to the magnets as originally put together or the motor will run backwards. Doing these things will make your Sizzlers run better, faster and last longer. Look up slot car motor rebuilding for many tips that work on all DC motors. It's fun

I use to have sizzlers as a kid with the big wide bank track. Lots of fun. Back in the 80's I use to race 1/24 scale wing cars (slot cars) We rebuilt the motors. Recharging the magnets, putting heat sinks on the brushes etc. We would use a white ink eraser to clean the contacts. There was "drive" shafts with different amounts of windings that would change the torque of the motor. Neat watching you work on the sizzlers. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for watching Gordon! I'm noticing that these may have been the gateway for some to get into slot cars. I never had these back in the day so really didn't know much about them so still learning.

Nickle Metal Hydride rechargeables are considered better than the nickel cadmium. Ni-MH have better charging characteristics and don't get what's called a "memory". We sold them at my last work.

Have you considered using dielectric grease on the contacts to help prevent future corrosion?

I'll definitely be looking that up. I don't know much on electronics as you could probably tell in the vid and I'm a newbie to the Sizzlers. Thank you for the recommendation to the grease.

Question - will the AA battery work as a test? Or will it only run on a 1/3 AA battery?

You may need to oil the motor on the spoil sport, it shouldn't be squealing like that.

Do not scrape that mo tor part with that knife ,,,You can't see it .. But it makes that contact piece a bitt brittle and micro ruff ,, ...Which will cut through the wire contact brushes in time...Clean all the metal motor parts with TARNIX Then use very fine grit sand paper that doesn't harm nor make the metal ruff....Here's a secret.... Once you get the motor running ..Put a speck of WD40 down in the motor contact brushes ...And watch the baby speed up 5 times faster,, Just a speck of WD oil...And don't ever soak the entire motor in oil...The magnets will come unglued over time and rub against the motor- slowing the car speed down..
