Is anyone surprised they chose a rap headliner when a lot of the conversation lately is about how Hip-Hop is commercially backsliding, it’s grip on the mainstream is slowly loosening, & with new Pop & Country stars exploding, you’d think an artist from those genres would be tapped. Picking a rapper was a curveball.

Ppl keep saying the Super Bowl never had artist from the hometown performing in past years..And that’s absolutely correct but once Jay Z became the overseer..We never had this many back to back Urban acts…Rap and R&B..come on yo..Wayne been said he wanted to do the Super Bowl 2years ago.. I mean the guy been rapping 30 f..king years..And he still relevant to this day..But you give it to Dre and Snoop in LA..who ain’t put an album out in years..🤔 I’m from New Orleans and I’m not being biased but Wayne definitely deserved that stage 💯

I really don't understand what the fuss is about. In a live event of that magnitude, there isn't a better representative for Hip-Hop (and black America, if you want to go there) than Kendrick Lamar. This guy has a frigging Pulitzer and he performs at a level that even non-HipHop fans respect and admire. If he brings out Weezy, yes, I'd love that. But, make no mistake, Kendrick performing at the Superbowl RIGHT NOW is a far bigger win for HipHop (and music) than Weezy is. Go and watch this man's live sets and tour performances. He's the one guy I know who could pull off something on the scale of MJ, Prince and Beyonce.
