A pointer to driving thees old cars. Put the hands in the 10 to 2 o'clock position. Do not do 9 and 3 as it will jiggle around. Serious braking is done by pressing hard on the pedal and downshifting. The engine helps...a lot, more so in cars without the brake booster. Body roll is not a problem in old Volvos as long as you feel that your tiers are not skidding. The good thing is the steering on the Amazon, it literally feels like you have your hands on the pavement while driving....lots of feedback.

I had several of these cars back in the day. They were great handling, easy to work on for a neophyte mechanic, very reliable, and got lots of attention. You should push the choke in as soon as you start moving, otherwise you'll be running the engine much too rich which will soot up the plugs and burn too much gas. As far as AC goes, you have the vent windows which can be aimed right at your face. As noted elsewhere, these cars had a very successful career in rallying and are still raced quite competitively, albeit with the right mods.

Volvo Amazon was my first car and only car as of today. The wagons are definetly rarer, especially with that b20 motor that makes the car relatively snappy with the dual carbs. Good stuff!

My first car was a 64 122 wagon. Loved it, could turn on a dime...loved the long travel of the gear shift. Sold it for a 68 VW...big mistake. Also had a P1800. Volvos are great cars...at least the old ones...

My first car 122s, B20 engine, 1970, green, plenty rusty, especially around the headlights and front fenders

Had a '68 2dr with a B18 running twin SUs and an overdrive. Stunning car, smooth engine (much quieter than the one in the video), comfortable, easy to drive and easily able to keep up with modern traffic. It was too nice an example to be used as little as it was so I sold it on... I regret that but I've seen pictures that suggest it's being looked after by an enthusiast

I learned to drive in a 63 two door. Fabulous cars. Mine had the older "flying wedge" steering wheel. When set up properly and in good condition they are actually pretty sporty. They were very successful rally cars in the day.

Nice video! I have a 1964 volvo p210 with the exact same drivetrain as your amazon hgv. She's definitely a screamer at 60mph since I don't have an od gearbox installed. Also the choke doesn't have to be operated in warm weather if the carbs are adjusted properly, consider checking that out. Otherwise nice video, cheers from sweden!

The high beam switch on the floor is for the North American market. It is on the column in Europe. Old American cars had the switch on the floor

The lack of rubber on your pedals typically tell the difference between 27k, 127k, or more. Also, the wipers get more wobbly as well.

Re the Volvo Amazon wagon the shifter hits the dash bc the bronze bushing in the trans cover is worn. It shouldn’t hit the dash. This is a common issue on the m40 trans cover.

Decent video. HP numbers for the 2.0 is off on the low side check Wikipedia. Factory should have a front sway bar. Volvo got the patent on the shoulder harness seat belt and gave it away to save lives. Should Idle perfectly after a minute with the choke off and you were down on power driving with it on while warm.

Nothing wrong with these cars. I n the Netherlands they were used daily because they run on liquefied gas which is almost 3x cheaper than petrol and they used to be exempt from road tax due to their age. Well the, the clutch is heavy. Going to fast through a corner is dangerous
