We have found the Hampton Inns to be superior for chair bound use. The king beds are always TOO high. Keep up the great work! ! ! !

Try Candlewood Suites (IHG). The accessible rooms are well designed. They include a stove, microwave, full size refrigerator and dishwasher. Plus if you need to do laundry the laundry facilities are free.

Wow! Is Candlewood American? I haven't seen them before.

Candlewood Suites has locations in the States but they do have a few locations in Canada. West Edmonton Alberta and Montreal are two that are currently available. It is the hotel chain that is my first choice. I have mobility issues. I use a rollator Walker in order to walk. So handicap accessible rooms are helpful.

You are so much better at moving around in your wheelchair than I am you seem to fit in places where my chair can't. You got skills. Thanks for sharing it helps me understand problems I haven't run into yet

Thank you so much for sharing the hotel chain that has taken us into account with the layout of their rooms. Next time I’m on the road I’ll be looking for them. Thank you for sharing your continuing life journey with us and we will share our findings with you to make us all more adaptive 🦽

I’ve been in a chair for 33 years. I’ve seen some real shit and for several years I let it piss me off. I realized that the world is struggle so how I respond will greatly effect the outcome. You’re doing a good thing with your videos, I just wished you didn’t seem irritated.

As someone with CP who has been in a chair almost 10 years I would not be able to travel if my accessible hotel room was like hers in part 1 she should be irritated...she can make it work when she needs to It would be impossible for me I'm very irritated that's what they consider accessible! I do not travel because I haven't had the chance to but that doesn't mean that I shouldn't be able to

I'm a t5 para and my wife uses a powerchair and we'd consider getting a room like this hitting the jackpot. its almost perfect. The only thing to make it better would be grab handles arround the toilet.

An alternative to the expensive Roho is camping sleeping mat foam. It's cheap and comes in 6'roll which i cut to needed size. It's essentaly plastic so it drys out pretty quick. I use it padding all kinds of things.

I am a para 10 yrs now and have stayed at a Hampton inn.only found 2 things wrong with my "accessible" room. sink was too high and bed was too tall. I let them know about the problems, they appreciated my input,

Im in the Uk and I hit many issues with accessible hotel rooms in my wheelchair. I gave feedback on a wet room flooding out the bathroom to the room, they changed the flooring so the water would drain. sadly there was issues that you would knock the temperature control on the shower. i really think hotels need to take advice from a variety of disabled users to try get it better and of course safe.

It's kind of sad that the non accessible rooms are more accessible then the "accessible" rooms. Yeah. It's not perfect but still.

Great video!! You don't mention the height of the bed, which for me always seems to be a problem. I cannot tell you the number of hotel person at the front desk tell me the bed cannot be lowered. I always insist, and they usually can. I use Marriott's because their bathrooms and usually very accessible and the beds can be managed. Good for you for doing this!!

Just watched part 1 and 2. The problem is that hotels do not expect actual paralysed people, maybe even traveling by themselves(!), to use these rooms. They are made for people with mobility issues, and most likely a partner who is expected to help. These reviews will hopefully help hotels to contact local organisations to help design these rooms. I work in hotels, and I have experienced that all thought goes into the bathroom, but not the room itself. once I did not realise until much later that I was cleaning an "accessible" room. It had a nice wetroom, but no way could you get a wheelchair either side of the bed to be able to transfer!

I hate when they assume.. I booked a normal room in Amsterdam, and without even asking she rebooked my room to an “accessible” room, that I didn’t ask for or needed. I am lucky enough to still be able to walk inside, and now this room was fine.. but it felt like I was in a hospital (there was an alarm system in the bathroom, and it was almost a copy of a hospital bathroom.. 😑 so the mirror and sink were at a wheelchair height, but nowhere to sit other than the ground when showering.. that’s why I wanted a normal room that has a tub in it that helps me so much with pain and takes much less energy then showering standing up.. or sitting on the ground as I can’t stand up showering...) also it wasn’t wheelchair friendly like at all.. high fluffy carpet, not enough room for my wheelchair...

I really enjoy your videos. My daughter is a wheelchair user and going to a hotel can be quite stressful. I too have found Hampton Inn and other Hilton hotels work well for her. However, recently, we ran into a problem with a roll in shower because it had a half glass and is not a regular RIS. It was impossible for her to use so the manager worked with us in finding a suitable room for her. That is the first hotel to do something like that. Have you found any other hotel chains to work well as far as accessibility?
@ProTipsForParas

Homewood Suites is another part of the Hampton chain that is good. But no, other than that most suck mostly!

I am glad you found a better hotel and experience, thanks for pointing out the robo mini cushion, I had not seen those before and I have now found them on Amazon. I well be adding one to my travel sruff, as for the bath tub I have been useing a Aerobic Stepper that I had gotten on Amazon, as I can set it at different heights as needed with a towel on top of it. However, I believe I well be useing a robo mini here in the near future.

@@ProTipsForParas I can definitely tell you any Hilton room in their chain is accessible for people with disabilities. All staff is trained to respect every guest that comes through the doors. That is why our family is golden members with them cause we only book rooms through them. I especially like their hotels a lot because I have no emotional support or service dog problems at their hotels unlike other hotels cause they are so well trained.
