One of my relatives has MS and he needs a wheelchair for getting around inside his apartment. Where did you get that wheelchair? All the ones we've looked for so far don't have that kind of foot rest, and so the foot rests stick way out and run into walls in his apartment.

I'm disappointed to see how little torque you get with each push. And its heavy and the balance...you almost fell backwards there in the beginning.....I think they need to go back to the drawing board.

To those who thinks it’s okay to ask wheelchair users “what happened to you?”, this is why. Imagine going through this situation. Then imagine that every time you go to a grocery store, some random person will ask you to explain it. No they won’t get the full story, but the person in the chair will remember/relive it, when all they want to do is move forward from that awful situation.

Great video Tanelle, it's true the GFS building looks quite old, and the nurses filing system with hand written forms and binders feels like from caveman era. But it seems to function pretty well. Nothing is forgotten, nothing is lost. One time while at physio downstairs I mention that my right calf was bigger than the other. Not 30 minutes later after I was back upstairs resting in my room Dr. R. came to see me about that, proving great communication between the specialists there. I was soon trucked to UBC in a snowstorm for an ultrasound. Another time in passing I told my day nurse that I saw some shimmer in my right eye, again the doctor came right away and send me for a checkup at VGH eyecare centre, which is an incredibly efficient place. Being at GFS was an incredible adventure, I loved it there but I don't think I could have had much more of the hospital food, at the end I was skipping meals and loosing weight. Thankfully the mini mall across the street had the best Safeway in town with great ready to eat food options. Learning to wheelchair outside in snowy February, in slush, muck and broken sidewalk was interesting.

I was at GFS too, for six weeks in February-March, in a wheelchair with GBS. At Vancouver General they told me I was lucky to have a spot there. On the 4th floor we where mostly organ transplant, MS and burns patients, didn't see any strokes patient up there during my stay but many come as outpatient for PT & OT. Sure the building is old but so well suited for its purpose, would cost a Billion or more to replace. The whole staff is so awesome, I miss them. I arrived on a Friday afternoon, my OT had just the time to fit me with a new wheelchair before leaving for the weekend. You're right, weekend are so quiet, almost spooky. I use to wheel really fast down the empty corridor playing ACDC in my headphones, blowing some steam. It's hard to keep secrets on the ward, everyone can hear everyone's conversation, everyone knows your deal. I'll never see a meat ball without thinking of GFS's food. Recreation and music therapy provided me with a piano in my room and gave me lessons too, made the time pass more productively. I didn't know the story about Walt, he talked to me and encouraged me every time I ran into him there.

I think you don't quite get quadriplegics...because they wouldn't always be able to reach forward...so they'd never be able to use that sink.

Tanelle, it's always wonderful to see you. Please don't be a stranger...now your subscribers will worry....The motel code people don't know code stuff because the sink taps should be on the side and the pipes would be on the side and not an issue burning you and the piece of wood is silly.

LOVE it! The handles on the curtains/blinds are so nice. I love that this hotel had BOTH a tub and shower in it! Good call out on the places to hang your towels though. I'd make sure the hotel knows - that's such an easy fix!!

How can it be accessed from sitting position? The handle bars are alittle far and it can roll away while trying to get up from a chair. I think minor modifications inthe design can be improved for safety and accessibility.

Hello stranger! Pro tip from an avid lock picking hobbyist: do not trust those hotel room safes. They are not only very easy to defeat but most staff have the override code to open them. Hide your Rolex well, maybe dig a hole. 😉

So good to hear from you, Tanelle! And right in my back yard. So glad to see that the new hotels they built on the Wharf do great with accessibility. That bathroom was amazing! They took care of every need. It’s nice that you can just get an accessible room and not have to do an ala carte style conversation to do so. I hope you enjoyed DC despite the heat

Hi! love the room, but not the price. :) Good looking gal too. Most rooms I visit I must check things like, the height of the bed and toilet the most. I always travel with a 6 " toilet seat riser. I'm glad you made this video, that bathroom is huge as all should try to be. I just bought the Handi cup two weeks ago after just seeing your past video review of it, thanks, Love supporting disabled small businesses

So good to see you back with a new video. The hotel setup is a dream, not what I've run into even close in the past 22yrs as a para. What were you in DC for? Tourism or business? As an older teen in the late 60s, I moved there from Hawaii (great sadness) but the DC area has so many great places to visit & see. I hope you will do a video on your stay in DC and visit.
