*FYI You dont need to remove the knob to replace the thermostat, slight error in editing order.*
I got this oven second hand for very very cheap from someone on FB marketplace. I was told it works fine. It did work, I guess. But would not get up to proper temperature, and was undercooking food.
I took it apart and replaced the thermostat as it was a cheap part and a commonly known part to fail. I replaced it. And the problem was still there. The oven was not getting up to temp.
I noticed when doing the thermostat, that the plastic of the rotary switch was damaged. So I looked down it and noticed it was snapped, and also the D shape that should engage with the thermostat shaft, was now O shaped. So the thermostat was just freely spinning inside the rotary switch, engaging only when it was turned almost all the way up, or all the way down.
The reason was clear. The previous owner had tried to turn the knob anticlockwise. Which its not designed to do. It has a tab on the rotary switch to stop you from doing so. They obviously didnt know that you are not meant to turn it anticlockwise to put it on grill mode, but instead go all the way clockwise. Man handling it like a brute, snapping it in the process.
I wish people were honest these days. The oven was suspiciously cheap, so I was suspicious. Even if it was f*cked I still would have bought it, but it was and unwelcome surprise when trying to cook your dinner with it for the first time. And the seller convinced me it was fine.
Even with the fault, and the money spent on parts. It was still very cheap. I sold my previous very old oven, for more than the cost of this oven + parts.
