These videos take me back to a time when junkyards were full of what most consider rare cars today. I scrapped a couple myself after giving them a good thrashing. You could buy another running car cheaper than rebuilding one back then. Hats off to guys like this that had the hindsight to save them and to you for bringing these collections to us.

Coming from the UK I have been really surprised that Hillman huskys are being used for drag cars in the US but they are rare here so to see them where they are is really cool, those cosworth Vega's are really really cool, here in the UK cosworth are legends and much admired, I bet the cosworth Vega's are quick little cars and they've sparked a new interest for me so thanks for the introduction to them!. At the end of the video I noticed the fiat 124.. lots of potential in that car and I have a soft spot for Fiat's, I had a much modified 128 that was a total wolf in sheep's clothing,alot of people got shocked by it!.

The thing that frustrates me about car hoarders is these guys NEVER have the time or money to repair these cars and just leave them rotting outside. They refuse to sell a single one. Perhaps this guy is different. I will never take on "projects" I can't finish. This is the reason so many classics go to waste. Then if these guys do decide to to let one go it's for an unreasonable price. These guys need counseling.

The 16valve Cosworth Vega is extremely underrated and IMO very collectible because it must have been one of the very first mass produced multi-valve cars to ever come on the market. It is from the same time frame as the Triumph Dolomite Sprint (1973) that also had a 16V head and was arguably THE first mass produced 16V car ever on the market, the Ford Escort mk1 RS1600 BDA 16V. (1969) was not a mass produced car but a homologation special for rally and race competition, it also had a cosworth 16v head and was a world rally championship winning engine. Back in those days Cosworth made the extremely succesful world championship winning DFV V8 F1 racecar engine. About the Vega 16v engine, i seem to have read somewhere that they suffered from early excessive cylinder bore ware. So maybe it is why they are not so popular? But with todays knowledge, modern synthetic oils and precision machining i bet a good workshop could put some tuff steel sleeves in a Vega block and make the 16V engine run great again. In the early 1980's the Japanese motorcycle brands became BIG with DOHC 16V engines (Honda CB900F/F2, CB1100F, Suzuki GSX750E, GSX1100, Yamaha even came up with a 20valve head on the FZ750). By the late 1990's every Japanese , Korean and European car brand offered multi-valve engines as well. What about the US automakers? They lagged behind, again..., trying to catch up f.i. with the Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth Neon. (which was a good effort IMO) Imagine what COULD have been if the Vega Cosworth had become a resounding succes...
@MrSFSTUDIOS Жыл бұрын
Cosworth could never make the Vega-block hold up to the rigors of racing. The free-standing cylinder-bores would shift and crack the soft aluminum block or the pistons would scuff the siliconized aluminum bores. You are correct, today's synthetic lubricants will help a Vega-based engine work better.
@robertvance18733 жыл бұрын
I always liked the Vega and I thought it looked like a baby Camaro. It was a shame about the cosworth engine and it's overheating problems.
