Those are, "I'm Gone To Fix Them Up Someday" cars. The thing with people like him, they'll never sell parts to people who could actually use them. I've seen it a lot, when the owners of these private junkyards die, the family hires a mobile crusher to come in and haul everything away.

The guy has been collecting these cars "for the last few decades" and the only driver we saw was an old wrecker he uses to fetch these things. There is no sign of a shop or any projects underway, but he has plans. He should sell the decent ones before they dissolve into rust. He should keep one, just to make him feel good and keep that plan going. What's left, which is a significant amount of his inventory, he can sell for a paltry sum to a collector like himself. Damn, the guy can't even keep the weeds and trees from growing thru his cars. Let 'em go.

I feel the same about this guy. except for his sons big ford nothing was complete with any of his favorites like the mustangs. I feel this is one of those guys that says often "one day i will restore this one and it's not for sale. I say pick one of two and finish them and sell the others to have money to spend on things he has no time or talent to do and put said parts together so he can take his wife to the ice cream shop or cruse. I will never understand people who store engines outside with no oil pan or heads on their blocks and think they will be just fine when the day comes to rebuild them. Sorry but people with a hundred cars in their yard and not one done is just a fool talking out of a hat with dreams not able to complete. Makes you wonder what he is waiting for? Death before someone else builds one?

I'm a guitarist, love the car culture and all aspects. I really enjoy videos like this. Matt's collection is in vastly better shape than most TRUE labled hoaders. I've read a number of the comments, most which are uncomplementry. I do understand the complaints. However like the bible story of the farmer & his workers, some belly aching about his method of order of squaring up, He replied, is not lawful to do as i will with what is mine? 😂😆 Take what is yours & go they way. There is a shop, over run yes, & that burgundy convertible is amazing. I get both positions. Matt got alot of bad press here. Simply for sharing his collection & dreams. With all of us. It's absolutely his peragotive to do as he pleases. Ty for sharing this Matt. I've seen vastly worse storage & condition issue, with far less flack. Enjoy your passion Sir. ☉

Agree to a point. Hoarding though is a sickness, brought on by deeply rooted social issues. I didn't understand this about my mom, but after some retrospect of her having been through divorce and living in utter loneliness for several years, she grew attached to material things to keep her 'company'.. I understood way later.

I have to agree with this comment, as well as the responses. I don't mean to denigrate the guy with these cars, but he's more interested in buying cars than in owning cars. I can appreciate that - all of us like pursuing and purchasing cool old vehicles - but ownership involves some level of stewardship, and this guy isn't a very good steward of these old cars. Our old cars are (at some level) cultural artifacts and we should treat them as such. Not saying they have to be restored, but they shouldn't be neglected this way.

My uncle has a bunch of cars like this. He’s been retired 5 years and there’s always something stopping him from starting the next “project” But he has plans, though. So many plans. That’s what he tells people, whenever they want to buy one. Nope. Can’t sell you that one. Got plans for it. Turns out, that’s his entire plan. To keep them rusting away and to wait for the next person making an offer to tell them “I’ve got plans for that one”. So he can feel good about having something that someone else wants.

Yep it's jerks like this guy why the price of these cars keep going up . if these car were available to be bought then they wouldn't be so rare , because they are not rare as people make them out to be. If everyone of these rust hoarders would sell the millions sitting in fields to be fixed by someone who will . The prices would drop. What is a clone car ? Just a car someone put all the options on a base car the factory did . Might not be worth as much but looks as good drives the same and in the end a better sorted car if done right.

When the unibody got so rusty the front leaf spring hangers were poking the bottom of the back seat he replaced the firebird with a pinto station wagon with woodgrain sides. I saved ONE 63 Impala from the bush in the late 90s. I tore it apart with plans to get it drivable, but gave up and sold it. I knew it would take years and a bunch of money. This guy needs to get his head out of his arse.

Lots of good stuff there. There is a year's worth of work in just rounding up the good stuff and cleaning it up just to sell it off. But, selling all but a handful would literally fund rebuilding several of the ones that could be kept and built.

Without guys like this there wouldnt be too many old cars around now. When he collected these they would have been 20 - 30 years old and back then they were cheap, common and a familiar sight. Most people who owned one would have just run it into the ground, soon decided it wasn't worth fixing and didnt care what happened to it after that. Same as a 20 - 30 year old model now. Also, as much as im defending this guy, if hes like the other collectors ive met he doesnt give a damn what anyone thinks anyway.

Spot on. If he gave one to each of the commenters here, then called them in 3 years to check on the 'project progress', how many 'wife made me get rid of it' 'moved and couldn't store it so sold it' stories would he get. We all know how it goes. There are those who buy to keep, and those who buy to flip. This guy buys to keep clearly.

The amount of money just rusting back to the earth! Easily $200k baking in the sun. I’d sell 90% of them and put 50% of the cash in the s&p 500. Then actually START building those projects!

This place reminds me of a 32, three window that was in Kailua, parked right next to the beach, it just rusted away, 15 years it broke in two. He collected the cars when we didn't,hope and dreams are just as good for some people, it keeps us going, for the whiners, start collecting,30 years you'll have your own projects, while everyone complains

I’m a retired automotive-restoration guy, started when I was eight or nine years old in my fathers shop. 42 years of tearing down and rebuilding these pieces of art! And yes they are art in my eyes as any body guy will tell you that we don’t “see” what it is but what it will be! Simple vision of the “finished” piece, however long it take’s. Then the search begins for what you need. Anyway, I’m so sorry to see this inventory of rides just sitting out there wasting away, his real project is when he starts hauling them to the scraper. This is a real sin for these cars!!

There was a great feature on one of those torino/falcons in some magazine probably twenty years ago. I don’t remember which one though. But the really cool thing is the feature car was a 429. Yep, a factory documented 429 Falcon.

Thinking he likes to hunt project cars down, buy them, make plans, then get distracted by the next cool project that comes along. Whatever makes him happy, but he's never gonna get one "done" unless he either stops buying projects or let's some of the ones go he or his kids will never do. There becomes an emotional attachment once you start making those plans for how you're going to build them....I'm guilty of it too, makes it hard to cut them loose.
