Hotshot Trucking: Time to Move On?

I live 3 Hours West of Phoenix az and 3 east of San Diego ca .. I’ll book loads based on the hours of service thst will have me back and forth from those areas 3 times out of the week I make it to my house for my 10 hour rest period then and I’m familiar with the area and when there’s break downs or maintenance issues it’s never to stressful cause the area is familiar and and I know what to expect drive wise and you can begin to attempt to build direct log with shippers in that region … not creating a lane is to spontaneous and sporadic I feel stressed and all over the place landing at my house during the week even if it’s just to sleep

How do you operate out of that area? The rates are terrible and fuel is through the roof.

@@TRTHotshotrates are actually good in this area amd more room to negotiate there’s tolls on almost every freeway but this is my region I know how to avoid scales and tolls and I don’t burn diesel cause the traffic is so bad I never go over 55…it’s my home terminal so I’m ELD exempt 🤷🏽‍♂️ so I’m free from communist rest periods

This is why I’m working towards the day I can step out of my truck and into my office full time. Well, idk if I can do that because I love driving, but you know what I mean. The goal is to lease guys onto my authority very slowly, if you do it too fast then insurance gets all upset and it also leaves room for error. I also have another idea that I’m not quite ready to share lol, but as long as I have multiple lanes of incoming revenue then I’ll be ready to slow it down for myself out here burning up I-5.

You have to learn the games these brokers play. When they say 7 a.m most of the time it's because they want you empty. That's when I call or check Google and it's usually 8. They don't care about wasting your time.

You’re right. I am honestly burnt out dealing with random brokers. I have a handful of good ones I deal with. Seems most don’t respect hotshots

Exactly which is why I’ll book a dedicated load/partial I’ll still book something to fill up my trailer going that way anyways and I’ll call them and let them know there’s some delays because of some maintenance or tire issues 😂 there usually cool with it but they get bummed out but naw man I need to look out for myself besides he’s making good money on my diesel and trailer while he’s punching keyboards we’re even
