As a Nuggets fan for 43 years and actually watched English play your spot on. Melo is so inefficient on shots and never tried on the defensive end. English should be in the top 75 NBA players all time he was a straight assassin from the inside the ark. English also led the whole 80s decade for scoring in the NBA. Melo is a distant third on the Nuggets all time list! Remind me didn’t Bird and Magic play in the 80s. Lol😂

Nuggets fan here, love the Melo take. I'll always appreciate him for making that 17 win team relevant the next year and taking them to the playoffs as a rookie, but it became pretty clear to me by year 4 or so that he wasn't going to be the guy to take them to the mountain top. It's always been amazing to me how much of a difference Billups made in '09, and even that wasn't enough.

-- Never liked Melo. Great scorer and pretty incredible that he is in the Top 10 in points but...like a hot potato, gonna pass on him like Houston in 10 games. But hey, yall drafted Jokic. Simply incredible. I root for teams like DEN and SAC b/c as a PELs supporter, big name cities don't create better teams.

Mello had multiple issues one he was too Hollywood and didn't always keep basketball first and foremost. Secondly he played in a transitional time and didn't adjust his game...and guys that get distracted from the game tend to have a lot of injuries because they didn't get their bodies right and then when the athleticism is gone and they have improved significantly then they are REALLY diminished...A guy like Steph could probably play until hes 45 because he's always gonna be a phenomenal shooter and if nothing else could be a catch and shoot guy. Once Melo had his first significant injury it was the beginning of the end.

Gotta give Logan some love for the insanely on point RB take. Over the last 10 years the only RBs who have had extended notable peaks are AP, Frank Gore(?), Derrick Henry, then you get into CMC, or Chubb(who haven’t even been around that long). RBs who are in the league long enough to peak that high simply don’t have longevity any more… Also fun fact: Alvin Kamara has never had a 1000 yard season before.

Most of melo's playoff losses he was the underdog in the series, I remember Denver going toe to toe with the kobe lakers in the conference finals but that team def wasn't better than the Lakers.

@@brandenhill8426 James Harden won an MVP, has a somewhat decent argument for having won at least one, probably even 2 more, and lead the team that was closest to upset the Warriors in the heights of KD time in GS. Is he a playoffs choker? Yup, undoubtedly. But this is when we get into that weird area where a guy with a bad playoffs resume is considered lesser than a guy with no playoffs resume. If you're not in the hunt for the title, or at least in the race for MVP, you shouldn't be put in the combo with guys that actually were there. Melo should be at the very bottom of superstar tier, if you even want to put him there.

I feel like the Russ vs Harden “most valuable” debate for the 2017 season was so evident during their playoff series against each other. OKC got our scored by 58 points in the 46 minutes Russ didn’t play that series. And when he was on the court they outscored houston by an average of 4.9 points per 100 possessions. So the fact that Harden won that series was almost completely because of how bad Russ’ team was without him
@urbaindelva7869
@urbaindelva7869 Жыл бұрын
True, but Russ did kinda contribute to that as well. I remember watching one of the games in that series, and there were a series of OKC possessions where Russ shot the ball without even calling a play or setting up his teammates.
@kylemccune7497
@kylemccune7497 Жыл бұрын
@@urbaindelva7869 I’m not really sure what else he was supposed to do, considering the performance of his teammates. The 2nd leading scorer for OKC was Andre Roberson… The supposed “second option” in Oladipo shot 34% from the field and 24% from 3. OKCs only roster advantage was size and rebounding. But D’Antoni’s system made guys like Adams and Kanter almost unplayable because of switches and foul hunting. It was a perfect matchup for Houston. But ultimately OKC won the minutes Russ was on the court in spite of that

I personally think so. I can only speak for the players Ive seen in my lifetime (started in the 90s), but Ive never seen a player get more accolades and see that player not make his teams any better. He racked up high point totals on volume shooting and contested jumpers. Im not an expert, but Im willing to bet he has low shooting% numbers. I remember him being a bad 3 shooter as well. I never remember him doing anything on defence either.

This video was amazing, maybe the best one yet! i love hearing these takes! Carson i'm 100% with you on that Melo take. i do need to comment tho on how you said Russ was up there for most overrated player.. he's my all time favorite player and i really don't get all the hate (in general) you guys are extremely smart basketball wise, so like everyone else we all knew him being traded to the Lakers was never gonna work. just not a good basketball fit, but to say he's overrated is crazy. He still finished that year as LA's top scorer, assister, rebounder, most steals, and most minutes played. he shows up and balls every night. it's not like his shooting % changed he was never a shooter.Yeah the Houston thing didn't work, but his time with the Thunder, Wizards, and Clippers has been great! and here's something for the stat padding narrative too he has won 73.2% of the games he's gotten a triple double in. like 3/4 games he wins, so what are people talking about stat padding. from Dame one of the most skilled players ever "if i try and go every game and get a triple-double for a whole season, i can't do it" this dude did it for FOUR seasons... the "top 5 ever pg" Oscar is know for historically accomplishing this once, no one else has done it. so does Russ move up the list or does Oscar move down? can't have it both ways in my opinion. anyways super long rant but you guys are some of my main basketball media and i hate hearing Russ slander. anyways love the channel keep up the great work you guys are only getting better!

not that mad about the MVP take, 4th is dramatic. If you think Harden deserved it, that's cool, i'd probably agree. Kawhi (my 3rd favorite player ever) is like a 2B, i can see it but i'd still give it to Russ. i'm also someone who believes the MVP should go to the "best player on the best team" so i get the not liking how low of seed they were. However, i'm pretty sure you'd both agree that the Spurs and Rockets had a better team than the Thunder. A lot of your argument is efficiency, which again he has never been a shooter, but he still lead the league in points and PPG. so he was still scoring more than everyone else. i didn't know that defensive rebound stat, but still i already mentioned how he's a winning player when "stat padding" - sorry gotta defend my favorite player lol

It's arguable, but I see the argument for Duncan. To me, part of the reason why Kobe is seen as better than Duncan is because he was a carbon copy of Jordan, his game was more aesthetically pleasing, the Spurs were considered "boring" around that time, Duncan was not a lively character, and the popularity of Mamba Mentality.

I like Melo, but he is and has been overrated. He has not played with a lot of high-end talent, but his game never translated to (much) winning nor did he ever evolve his game to become more conducent to (more) winning, which was why he was out of the league for a year. I would argue that Mike D'Antoni's system contributed to Nash winning his MVPs as well. He was already an All-Star/All-NBA player before then, but Idk if he would've reached MVP level without D'Antoni's offense, which we know can make any player (specifically guards) look better than they are (hello, Linsanity). Objectively, Kawhi should've been the 2017 MVP. If not him, then it should've been Harden. I love Kobe, but I would take Duncan over him partly because there were less negatives and less baggage with him than there was with Kobe.

Late to the discussion. Saw all of Melo's Denver games and have to disagree he's the most over rated. I guess it all depends on what these two believe the expectations for him were. I personally never believed he was going to be a superstar or that he ever became one. If there was a lot of hype it was from delusional Knicks fans and NY media. He only made 2 all star teams while with the Nuggets. On the other hand, he was All NBA 6 times and made 10 all star appearances. Those achievements alone take him out of the 'most over rated' discussion. I always thought of him as the last of the old school gunners--his efficiency, like Kobe, was lower because he took so many really difficult shots.

What are ya talking about? Clearly ppl who just look at basketball reference for your stats. Melo avg 44% fg for his career and thats after he played some down years which dropped it further. How is that inefficient? Tmac as a talent was special but he hasnt done anything that Melo didnt. 2 all nba seasons in Orlando aint shyt for real. What you guys are failing to remember is that the presence of Melo scoring, rebounding and shot making ability made him the threat and unlike his 03 draft class mates he didnt team up to with them to win. He may not be as all around great as LBJ/Wade and not having the most winning intangibles but great all time scorer isnt overrated. Plus lets not talk about Paul George who avg 19 and 24 in 13 and 14 ecfs as the only scorer on a defensive team.

Don’t agree with the Steve Nash take because the NBA gave Russ a MVP simply off counting stats so it looks pretty bad that Kobe didn’t win a MVP when he was league leading scorer almost avg 40 ppg I agree that Nash was leading a great offense consistently but MVP has never been about consistency it’s been about who has the best season and if we are comparing teams that Suns team that Nash was on is way better then that Lakers team Kobe was on

I don't disagree with the principle of the Melo point but to what level are you going with it? For 1, have you ever seen someone proclaim Melo as this great winner that leads his team to playoff success? I haven't. I've exclusively seen him like I've seen Iverson. "He made me fall in love with Basketball" which is absolutely valid. 2, what is overrated in this case? Where do you think he is rated and where should he be? Cuz from my perspective he's a top 75 player, around 60 or so, and shouldn't be lower. So who exactly is overrating him and how exactly? Cuz to me personally, that entire tirade was basically pointless. It's like going on a tirade about how Lebron is better than Furkan Kormaz. We are aware. It's a pointless argument to make. And regarding the Alex English point: you can't seriously expect 20 year Olds that aren't in tune with as much Basketball as you are to think about Alex English. On top of that, comparing players from different eras like this rarely makes any sense to begin with
