Fun fact: Gladiators fighting to the death was a rare thing. Like, would you buy a Porsche just so you could crash it? Because owning a gladiator was like owning a super expensive car. It was done for the bragging rights, not to throw all the time and money it took to train them off a bridge.
@daredaemon88783 жыл бұрын
Yeah and if a gladiator died the entity hosting the games had to pay the gladiator's owner a large stack of money in compensation. It was common enough to remind the audience that death is on the line and satiate their bloodlust, but no more than that.

From what I understand in the colosseum in Rome gladiator fights weren't actually that common. There would be a handful of gladiator v gladiator fights each weeks but most of the entertainment came from things like executions, animal fights, and gladiator v animal fights (like lions or bears). Even during gladiator fights there was this unspoken rule among the gladiators to try not fatally wound the other gladiator. Sometimes a particular gladiator would be favored by the crowd and that gladiator could actually get quite wealthy (at least for gladiators) and the people running the arena would make sure that gladiator doesn't get killed.

@@koboldparty4708 @bobmcguffin5706 This is the reason I don't watch any anime that tries to emulate another country's history. The Japanese seem to understand even less than Americans do about history, which is a feat. Not a good one, but they manage it. There were people who did sign up, but gladiator fighting was primarily a slave sport. That being said, while someone else technically did own you, as a gladiator, if you lived long enough and were good enough, you'd be a goddamn celebrity, and you could actually earn/ buy your freedom. That being said, most slaves chose to stay gladiators because outside of potentially dying, you're set for life.
@colebrockman95797 ай бұрын
Becoming gladiators was actually something that some people volunteered to do sometimes in ancient Rome. You'd get a shit load of money and a lot of fame and recognition if you were successful. But, not all were slaves and this was not an example of the people who volunteered.

Highly sexualized in a way that's intended for people who find the masculine form sexy (a hetero man would just make them buff and shirtless, for example), male characters that are nurturing and affectionate, with a nice dose of catharsis at the end when you get the support you need to find your own power. Edited slightly for clarity. Changed "hetero person" to "hetero men" because I thought it would get my point across better.

As someone who watched osamake when it was first streaming. It was a joy to watch even though it was a complete mess, of every character screwing eachother over including THEMSELVES for the sake of being petty or revenge, including that the girl the mc was pretending to be with downright rejecting him even though she did have actual feelings for him but because of her spite she rejected him in the face and ultimately lived to regret it. It’s just an absurdity of emotions at their finest, and I loved it.

Because I'm a Math™ guy, that first one, Cestus, caught my eye. I'm not sure if it's a tournament or just a "Fight this guy and maybe you'll live" sort of thing, but the tournament one intrigued me. To determine the number of participants in an elimination death match you raise the number of participants per match to the power of number of rounds. This only works if there's the proper number of participants total, and let's just say there is. So, for instance, three rounds of fights is eight total participants in the tournament death match. To have one hundred rounds, there would need to be 1,267,650,600,228,229,401,496,703,205,376 fighters. Or, 1,267,650,600,228,229,401,389,703,205,376 more people than have ever lived, *ever.*
