Keima ending up with Chihiro at the end strongly communicated Wakaki’s concept of real and ideal. Keima’s obsession with the ideal caused him to be isolated and emotionally distant. Through a significant part of the series, he disdained the real and essentially treats it like a game. It isn’t until the Goddess Arch he finally accepts the real and acknowledges that focusing on the ideal without making progress is just an opiate. Chihiro is the most “real” of the cast, not being a goddess and her stubbornness being her main character trait. And for a guy like Keima who has basically been a glorified pickup artist; having a strong willed girlfriend who is happy to call him out, is a perfect match. Chihiro is best girl

Love this video. The World God Only Knows was one of the first anime I watched and loved because of characters and plot. I had no idea Wakaki had went through such struggle for TWGOK to be serialized. I was only in my freshman year when I heard about TWGOK season 3 then started to read the series. Wakaki deserves more praise for his work. I get that editors will have miss in series. There'll be bad ones that'll get a serialization, and hidden gems that are thrown away. I just wished TWGOK continued on. It had so much potential after the final arc and I was so sad because it didn't felt like a real end. But at least now I know how TWGOK was made and its philosophy. Hopefully Wakaki latest "Days to the Wedding" will have a better chance than his other mangas.

Thank you for this video man. After finishing the manga I couldn’t help but feel unsatisfied with the ending. I immediately looked around on KZbin to find proper discussions about the entirety of this series just to see what other people thought. Once again, thank you for this great video

EDIT 5/13/2023: Originally, the video was blocked due to some scenes and if I wanted to keep it up, those scenes needed to be cut out. Most were openings (1:35, 18:22, 19:01) and then a scene of Shiori (11:52). It disrupts the flow but due to a couple viewers wanting this video to return, I took the liberty to do this as the original project file was corrupted. I created a KZbin Short on my channel explaining the cut parts. Thank you for your understanding. 10/31/2020 Happy Halloween! Thank you for watching this video and I hope you enjoy it~ Although it was practically done, I did want to add an end card but my video editor was having trouble processing the video with so much 1080p footage and started crashing routinely. Thank you very much for your comment, I greatly appreciate it. :) The backstory for TWGOK was mentioned in a few 4koma in the manga volumes but most of it appeared either on his blog or the articles from his previous university, which I stumbled upon by accident when researching it. So it really encapsulated Wakaki-sensei's struggle and redemption in a nice little package. Thank you for your future support and I wish you the best in your endeavor as well! The ending of the series is not his idea, but the manga magazine. The magazine wanted to start a brand new project/content style while wash out their popular series at the time (including TWGOK). That project turned out failed and fans believe that’s the worst (and idiot) idea the magazine has ever put out. After re-reading the series, I got the hint that the story is about to start a new chapter about Elsie’s past life as the war weapon after the Heart of Jupiter Arc chapter (Elsie said she’s the last boss on the last episode). He definitely wanted to continue the story, but the magazine forced shut down regardless of the popularity. Hence the ending just seems very roughly ended.

That was a nice video, you nailed it with the explanation of the gap philosophy! It´s really important that subject since that philosophy is the core of the concept of kami nomi. But I genuinely think the third flag was really off topic, while seeing it i my head was: "we´re still talking about kami nomi right?". IMO you should totally talk more in depth about your journey of self discovering in other video dedicated specifically to that subject. I would love to hear more about it and I think it would help other people on the same situation. But from my personal point of view talking about that in a video essay is disorienting and moves away from the subject. Overall I enjoyed the video and I love the series, good work!
@secretrevealer15793 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your comment and feedback! I greatly appreciate it. I apologize if I come off as defensive here. Regarding the third flag and my own journey, I placed it there to segue between sections neatly while using myself as an example for the gap philosophy demonstration as a more in-depth look instead of a brief showcase. Additionally, I view the retrospectives as my own feelings and experience with the series while describing its themes and ideas. So, I briefly mentioned stuff in my life throughout, such as how I found it and how I learned about the oratorio. However, I do realize that devoting an entire section in the middle of the video essay is not apropos when I only briefly mentioned some life events throughout. As you said, it does disrupt the flow by going off topic when talking about the big idea to a personal quandary. I will take this feedback into account for future video essays (especially the one I am wrapping up now) to distinguish a personal essay from an informative one. Once again, thank you very much for the positive comments and feedback. I hope you have a wonderful day~

My goodness, has it been ten years? Man... If this amazing manga gets treated like Hunter, it'll be readapted in around another ten years lol. Seriously though, what an amazing video! I could hardly believe there were still fans of KamiNomi still around, let alone finding someone who'd make a long video essay about it. And actually, I interpreted the real and ideal philosophy differently. I had always thought that it meant being aware of how you can change things in real life, that you have control to push it to your ideal. I had never thought of this to mean changing myself, moreso I've always believed it meant changing everything around me. Very self-centred interpretation for sure but that's what I got.
@secretrevealer15793 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the positive feedback! There are still fans around on Twitter, forums and the subreddit so there is plenty to meet. \o/ On the topic of the real versus ideal philosophy, I do not think your interpretation is wrong or misunderstood. It is your way of perceiving it and if it helped you in any way, then that would mean it worked (possibly). I do not know the extent of how you changed your surroundings, but if it is limited to creating a positive environment with material or lifestyle choices, then that would be fine. It would become problematic if you expected people to change for you to meet your ideal. Hopefully I understood that correctly. And I just explained the author's explanation on what he wanted to communicate to provide further insight on the series. The fact it changed your perspective on things is great to hear overall. =)
@cdscissor3 жыл бұрын
@@secretrevealer1579 Yeah, and don't worry, I didn't do anything to other people, well not anything negative atleast. The series really helped me a lot because it thought me I could take control of my life instead of letting it get me down. When Keima does a conquest, it's not only entertaining but also inspiring, because this whole message as I understood it was being gracefully showcased and proven true right there in front of me. Kaminomi is something I will always hold in high regard because of this and not counting the whole real vs. ideal discussion, it's a solidly written series in its own right. If I remember correctly, Tamiki celebrates his character's birthdays with art on Twitter. I've only seen him do it in 2019 I think, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's an annual thing for him. A little tangent though, what I love most of all about the anime is its soundtrack. I decided to take a listen again and it's oh so good, Matsuo Hayato really did a phenomenal job with it. Some people in the comments of an upload of the OST on KZbin pointed out that the music is akin to Visual Novel music and now I can see why they'd make the connection, I do wonder if it's intentional, hmm... I would honestly love to see the OST re-arranged to perfectly sync with the animation in a potential readaptation (which would reuse assets of the first adaptation, although I don't know if this is even plausible), akin to how how Scott Bradley re-arranged several MGM songs as well as original pieces to perfectly match a particular Tom and Jerry episode. With the series's mostly episodic nature, I think it would be a good fit. So yeah, that's all I wanna say. P.S. Shiori is my best girl too

Sorry for the wrong comment earlier and it really did seem rude. I may have misread the Rumiko Takahashi to Naoko for some reason. I do dislike Rumiko too but she can at least do some good female character writing like Wakaki did. I probably meant why TWGOK reminds me of Sailor Moon's story of how it's supposed to end until the finale is some messed up arc that left off characters important from the previous arc. And I am glad it didn't got an anime. I did listen, I swear. I'm just not exactly paying attention to the visuals since I am just listening. I am honestly in agreement of what the industry thought of Wakaki's work is wrong. Then my mind drifted off why Naoko gets a pass. I am no troll, I promise. Your video is great.
