i could be wrong, but Adrian's mention about Hublot starting to grow on him and linking that to Hublot's inhouse movement...to be honest that rubbed me off the wrong way, since his biggest gripe about Hublot was the fact that they had been using ETA/SW movements for the price they are charging. Now that he's seen an inhouse movement Hublot he feels like its now worth exploring, especially when their inhouse movements arent exactly a value prop in any sense? Once again i could be VERY wrong about what he's mentioning but he just sounds like a massive movement snob getting his thoughts and opinions from the internet without critically thinking about the product for himself.
@BarkandJack9 ай бұрын
My biggest gripe about Hublot is the obscene pricing. They still aren't "worth it", and certainly aren't a value prop. But are G-Shocks actually "worth it"? £150 for a rubber made watch with old technology? They are loved because in a world where people spend £1,000s on watches, £150 is just a bit of fun. Doesn't matter if the rubber strap changes colour after a few months, or the the "glass" scratches after being sneezes on. It's just fun. If you spend £100,000s on watches, then a £20,000 watch is just fun. Same logic.

I cant help but think the luxury watch industry is a slow sinking ship. Exorbitant price increases catering to an ever shrinking demographic and to cover the costs of shows like this that the general public are just not interested in. The industry tells us that things have never been so good , yet every time I pass by an AD they are dead. This includes high traffic affluent areas like Dubai, the AD's are literally ghost shops.

I have such conflicted feelings about this one. Seems like such a fun watch show, and the kind of one I'd like to support. But Dubai is built on human rights abuses, and the whole reason they're pumping money into events like this, the UFC, etc is to buy positive press. Part of the reason I love watches is they're fun and functional fashion accessories that you can easily buy without supporting human rights abuses if you stick to the right brands, unlike so many other modern products. Really glad a show like this exists, but I really wish it was in another place and in another context
@supaG-1.09 ай бұрын
Dude, every country has a poor human rights record, especially the US and UK.
@Cheeseiest19 ай бұрын
@@supaG-1.0 absolutely, but the human rights abuses are ongoing in Dubai....that's a huge difference. Half of the US economy was based on slavery for over a century, and a lot of people think we still haven't done enough to address the ongoing repercussions of those issues. Would never try to whitewash that reality, but there are still thousands of functional slaves this very minute in Dubai. Dealing with and understanding human rights violations of the past and supporting those that are ongoing are categorically different in my mind.
@Whatisallthisfor9499 ай бұрын
Oh here we go, we have the white western brigade talking down any place in the world (outside Europe and US) who are progressing and showing they can do things. Please get off your BS high horse. No one who Iives and works in Dubai is forced to be there, in fact it’s quite hard to maintain your visa to stay in the country. Like it or not, places like Dubai are the future because they are over taking the crime infested Wester capitals of the world where service is atrocious, people unfriendly and hypocrisy is the name of the game. Stop bashing the global south, it’s only a matter of time till they’re on top and rightly so.
