Hi Jeff I've been watching so many of your videos and I have to say this one was very informative. Now I understand everything about hot tubs too but you are spot on when you talk about the chemicals. This will help people understand the difference between chlorine and non chlorine shock and of course bromine too. Good job

Very informative! Thank you

Love your videos although my hot tub has the frog in-line cartridge sanitizing system totally different I believe than yours. do you know any KZbinrs that specialize in the frog in line system?

Non chlorine shock (MPS) affects pH quite heavily because it's strongly acidic. I think it has pH around 4. It's just a bit better than trichlor tabs. On the other hand, dichlor has pH around 6.5, but adds lots of CYA as you mentioned.

Do I add chlorine after shocking, or ph decreaser if my hot tub is out of balance

We’ve had our hot tub one year now. We were always baffled and confused about how to deal with its cleaning in general. For the amount of time we have had it, we’ve been in it very little. Can you suggest anything? We just cleaned and refilled yesterday.

Hi Jeff, another very informative video. I've used chlorine sanitizer and a non-chlorine shock for the year we've had our tub, which have worked great for us. However, I've developped a reaction to the chlorine, even at low levels (1 to 3, but I do dose higher, and let is come down for when I use it). I'm now considering going over to bromine, which you've explained, is milder on the skin. My question for you is, do I have to drain my tub and refill, or can I just let the chlorine level drop off, then start on the bromine? Big Steve, in a very wet, cool, 62 F, East Yorkshire, England.

Curious Stepenebleton8135, how often do you change your water? I am no expert but I would change the water completely and start over completely with bromine, better safe than sorry!

Hi, it's worked out that I've changed more or less every 5 months. I did completely empty my chlorinated water before starting on the bromine.@@KBradAdams

JMO.I watched these vidoes when i first started mine and now i realize the video has a lot of misinformation in it. Its wrong on the cya ,hot tub shock "dichlor" has it in it and can get too much build up making the dichlor ineffective once the cya levels get too high. You need to check the CYA level My first hand experiance with MPS non chlorine shock has a acid effect and will drop the ph down. You do need cya at least 30 but if you keep shocking with dichlor based your getover the limit in a few weeks. The only way to drop CYA is to partially drain and refill it doesnt go down like the sanitizer level does.

Looking at your hair maybe you have too much chlorine in the water?
