Highly recommended video - as someone who is an intermediate-level Houdini user this taught me a lot.

this video explains a lot and should be pinned on the website homepage. I'm coming from blender and have to learn how houdini works cause blender physics are dated at least from stone age. Most difficult part from what i see is the interface and the way things are organized, the interaction with scene elements especially in the node editor is not from this world. Took me some time to learn maya but this is beyond human capabilities, that ui is designed for extraterrestrials.

In fact, Houdini has his own philosophy. Like any software else. (Think about Zbrush : it's a UFO in the world of 3D !). But once you've understood it, your realise Houdini is well better organised and well-thought out than any other 3D software. The fact is : for most of us, we come from other softs like 3dsmax, Maya, etc. and for years we've been formated by them on how to work with their interfaces and philosphies. This led us to a specific workflow which is not really the most efficient and convenient one. By using Houdini, you litteraly deconstruct this "formatage" and start from scratch a new one more effective and structured in the long term. So Yes ! breaking years of "bad" habits is painful, but it worthes the price. I agree the learning path in Houdini is slow, but give Houdini a chance, you won't regreat it !

It uses some of the same content from the PDF but teaches it in a way that explains the SOP - DOP - LOP contexts in Houdini
