I have a whippet and sometimes she can really get moving. People will stop and watch with amazement and joy as she runs with crazy speed and of course the acting nuts. She's my pride and joy.

Lol , actually standard Dachshunds are more of a medium sized dog, often jokingly described as “a dog and a half” at length..it’s their little chicken drummette legs that give em the impression that there smaller than they are. Think of standard Doxies as low riders..big/wide, sturdy, & low to ground

I love how the commentators kept talking about aloofness and dignity of hounds. I agree with this as to some of the sight hounds, but I have had bassets and a greyhound and there is nothing aloof about these dogs!

There is nothing aloof about any of them once they know you. The sighthounds look elegant , but they are regular dogs and some of them are pretty goofy.

Miss the rough spanish sighthound with likly the same impression of an deerhound! They are beautiful and more and more rare sighthounds in its pure blood and a very old breed too.I wonder why there is no lobby for the spanish sighthoundbreeds, the galgo.español, in Europe. Never saw one in show! Beside they could come in rare colors like lilac, isabel or chocolate, but the FCI don't take a look at them at all. What a pity!

You dont sign up. Its a long, complicated journey of countless hours learning the tricks to this. And they dont just run. Part of the challenge is to make it look easy. It is the hardest sport ive ever done

Awww! I love them all. The tiny dacshunds, the giant borzoi and greys. I would just want to play with them all and pat them lots. But it's beautiful seeing them on show being all hoity toity.

They should do two separate events for sight hounds and scent hounds, a judge will almost always prefer one over the other, most often sight hounds are the most aesthetically pleasing.

Regarding the Dachshund @21.20: Dachs = badger, Hund= dog = badgerdog. Though it´s correct that they are called Dackel in Austria and Germany

We say Dox hund here in the US. The tv announcers as well as the show announcer are all saying dax hund. As long as they aren't saying DASH hound... that drives me nuts!

Because dumb arse to get many of the sight hounds to stride out nicely and show off their wonderful gaits you need the handler to be able to move gracefully with them. Not waddle across the ring like a fat penguin.

As they are all different breeds with different characteristics, the dogs do not compete against one another. They compete against their own breed "standard of perfection", which is a written, idealized description of the breed in all aspects; size, color, eye shape, coat length, markings, proportions, gait, EVEYTHING. Whichever dog conforms most closely with it's standard should be considered the winner. While there will unfortunately always be politics on judging, it's NOT supposed to be a popularity contest.

Looks like the mini dachshunds are still puppies and the standards are grownups already. I dont know if all of the six varieties are all adults or the minis are just that freaking small , need some research haha

My fave group! All sighthounds are absolutely gorgeous. My beloved/worshiped & adored Saluki needed to be euthanized in January and the missing her's killing me. I love seeing the breeds not recognized by the AKC. We've got the Bluetick Coonhound (and my family has one, too), and y'all have the Bleu de Gascogne. :) And other lovely ones...the Sloughi and Azawakh, the Griffon Fauve de Bretagne, the Hamiltonstovare, the Segugio, etc. Thrilled for Tease! Brindle Whippets seem to the winningest ones...interesting.

Missing a beloved dog hurts like heck..... Salukis are quite unusual nowadays...Where we live they are the 'rarest' of the sighthounds, to be seen out and about,[ compared to Greys , Whippets and Lurchers] ..in the 1990's there seemed to be more about. They are very 'aloof' with people they don't know, like hounds generally..they do seem to be one person dogs.

Dotson, being called a sausage dog isn't as bad as what we Americans call them as Winny Dogs. I really thought the judge gave it all attention. He really each it's due respect.

I have a rescued Sloughi and Greyhound. Neither of my dogs look like those two examples. I feel sorry for the Sloughi, I get the feeling these judges know sweet fa about the breed and it gets overlooked.

Clem Fandango Sloughis look lovely dogs. I had a rescue Lab x Greyhound lurcher. Her previous owner thought that because she had greyhound in her, she should be stick thin (she was almost emaciated). I don't care if it's breed standard, the poor Sloughi shouldn't be shown that thin. Slim with muscle looks so much better.

LorLor Slinger I agree, that example looks way too thin. My Sloughi has his ribs showing but that one just looks ridiculous and unhealthy. It should be between 25 and 30 KGS....mine is 29. My rescued racing grey also is nowhere near as thin as that grey in the arena. She's 31kgs which is pretty much the perfect weight.

Clem Fandango greyhounds are supposed to look like this. Racing rescues usually fatten up a bit when you rescue them. The sloughi needs to like like this. Any less and they would both be considered underweight, a bit more and it would be overweight. They can’t hold fat very well.

Ban this vile show! It only benefits the owners and not the dogs. The Kennel Club talk about welfare, most of todays dogs are suffering awful health problems thanks to the show standard look, German shepherds with sloping backs, pugs/bulldogs that can hardly breathe, bassett hounds with such short legs that can hardly support their overweight bodies and cavalier king Charles spaniels with their skulls to small for their brains(I own one of these that has syringomyelia and epilepsy) so Ive seen first hand how cruel breeding for looks not welfare is. My dog was sold at 8mths old to me as he was to big for the show ring, to me he is a loving pet that is lucky to have reached over 10yrs old and still running and enjoying life despite his problems which are controlled with drugs. Any show that seeks perfection over welfare is wrong and should be banned for good!

Maybye not ban, but change the standards of breeds so that the priority is health and not looks, and also make it possible to show real working dog lines that are healthier so they can breed with those dogs that are healthy and also keep the working standars. A grey elkhound with bad health is impossible to hunt with and therefore the working lines are often pretty healthy, at least if you compare to a lot of other dogs like pugs and french bulldogs etc.
