Cute quilt... thank you for your tips throughout this video. Loved the one where you showed how to correct when the dark triangle is not on the top right. To be honest, if that happened to me and I didn't have your little tip, I would have been a little frazzled on how to correct this issue easily. Thank you again for you video.

Love this idea! I just reorganized my fabrics, and decided that I need to make something that needs a lot of ivory background. This will be perfect for that.

I’ve just finished this. I swapped the orientation of piecing of the blocks in the middle sections to keep the continuity of the pattern. It prevented those four odd random diamonds/offset squares and I think it looks better. Thank you Laura, I love your instructions.

Hi Laura I love this quilt. Can I add additional blocks to make it a little bigger? I’m new to quilting so I struggle with adjusting patterns. I can’t tell if by adding 2 or 3 blocks per row (across & down) will still make the pattern work? If it’s not adjustable I’ll just add more borders. Love your channel, I’ve learned so much. Thank you.

ATTENTION ! ATTENTION! EDITED COMMENT - I've made several mistakes in these fabric requirements and have edited below what I believe are the correct amounts. I'm SO sorry for anyone who may have already started cutting your contrast strips. You need to cut (28) FOUR INCH contrast squares (NOT 5-inch contrast squares) for the background squares in order to match the same size of the unfinished hour glass blocks. So, the strips will also need to be cut at 4 inches and NOT 5 inches. Laura’s Hour Glass Block Quilt - approximately 35” x 35” Fabric Requirements: (assuming you can square up each hour glass block to 4 inches unfinished) A. (20) 5-inch print precut charm squares (Laura uses “Bonnie Lane” from designer, Pat Sloan, of Benartex) B. 1.5 yds minimum - 1 ¾ yds of contrast fabric (Laura uses a very soft beige tone-on-tone) Sub cuts: 1) (3) strips of 5” by width of fabric (WOF); sub cut (20) 5-inch contrast squares to match the # of print charm squares for making the hour glass blocks. 2.) (8) strips 4” strips by WOF. Use 4 of these 4-inch strips to cut (28) 4-inch contrast squares (2 next to each side of the center 4 hour glass blocks = 8 contrast sqs; 5 around 4 outsides of entire group of hour glass block = 20 contrast sqs. Use the other 4-inch strips of 4” x WOF for top, bottom, left, & right borders (you will cut each border to whatever the larger portion of your quilt measures (~ 28.5) C. Backing - 1.25 yards (assumes a 4-inch overage on each side D. Binding - a minimum of 1/3 yard; sub cut (4) strips of 2.5”x WOF IF I ever post a comment with fabric requirements again, I’ll triple check my calculations. Once again, I apologize for any mishaps that may have occurred in cutting your strips. Newbeequilter 🤢

What did you say was the ruler you used?
@BJ74814 жыл бұрын
If you're asking about the speciality ruler, it is the: Quilt in a Day Triangle Square Up Ruler. You can purchase from Amazon: www.amazon.com/Quilt-Day-2-Inch-Triangle-Square/dp/B0018NBCHS/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=Triangle+square+up+ruler&qid=1579238734&s=arts-crafts&sr=1-4

I love this little, quick and easy quilt, and have some special fabrics that I just may have to use for it. This is a little crazy, but, if you sewed 4 of the sets wrong, and used them for the side pieces, all of the hour glass figures would consistently go the same way all the way around the quilt.

I’m doing this on spare 5” blocks to practice. It NEVER fails when I trimmed my blocks and like always they’re uneven. Rulers, cutting mat, and rotary cutter with new blade it does not matter. I wish someone could please tell me what I’m doing wrong. I have ruined 3 or 4 charm packs, a jelly roll, and yardage. I can’t find anything about this problem. Maybe its just me.....I’m sooooo aggravated!
