Not only did I make this with Vanessa's fabric just as Laura did, but I won first prize in a quilt competition at our local community fair. (And it was my very first quilt competition!) Laura, you were my inspiration to make this beautiful quilt!

There are lots of reasons why I find your tutes superior to most others, but one of my FAVES is that you do not waste time having us watch you cut and sew fabric!!! I have Never understood why most quilt instructors are persuaded that there is educational or entertainment value in demonstrating those activities. Thank you for your careful instructional design.
@lindadaley74697 жыл бұрын
Some of us are very visual learners and I for one like to see how each step is done exactly! I find it confusing if I can't see what is being done in each step along the way and I am more apt to make mistakes as I make the pattern!
@shelbsmith50957 жыл бұрын
Bonnie Brannon when I started quilting, the only thing I knew was how to use a sewing machine. Those instructors who showed the use of the rotary cuter, what a 1/4 inch seam looked like, how they arranged pieces on the machine helped a lot. I could see what I was supposed to be doing. Even now it helps to see that sometimes cuts and seams aren't perfect, and how they correct them.
@annesitz1347 жыл бұрын
Bonnie Brannon I totally agree. How clear and concise without us watching the cutting and sewing when not needed. Laura, I look forward to your tutorials--thanks so much!
@SewGurl587 жыл бұрын
Bonnie Brannon I could not agree more with you! For those that are just starting or are "visual learners" there are tons and tons of tutes out there showing every single little detail. For those of us who are more advanced, it becomes so tedious to have to skip through all the cutting and step by step stitching and pressing to see a pattern to fruition. There's always a video out there to explain the steps she's using. Keep doing things the way you're doing them. Some of us are thankful for your efficiency.
@galememeeof66887 жыл бұрын
I also like not having to watch the cutting and stitching. This way we can learn a really new and interesting design without investing an hour or so. I think she includes all the measurements and instructions that are necessary to be able to put this quilt together. If you listen at the beginning I believe she also includes the amount of each fabric necessary to make her quilt. I'm a fan of this style.

Laura very nice Christmas quilt, I like the color choices The poinsettia print is beautiful. The other Prints added into it give it a non-traditional look. But it works with the poinsettia print. Thank you for this tutorial the way you explained it was perfect. I so can see this made up in so many other fabric choices.

I LOVE THIS VARIATION ON THE LOG CABIN!!!! I am a quilt artist, formerly a painter. My medium now is fabric, and I am loving it! Your tutorials ARE outstanding. I will be making this quilt with artistic license. Can't wait! I've got 3 quilts on my Design walls; as soon as I clear out one quilt top, this one goes on my design table; once I've semi worked out my design, up on the wall it goes. This has exciting potential for me! Many thanks. Lindsay, Sacramento, CA

Quick & easy, Laura?, as long as one is able to sew accurately. (Not me!.) But, i keep on doing it anyway bc i love the process. Stunning Ms. Laura! Love to see the interplay and overlay of radiating floral and stripy log cabins. I'd make sure the center has red flowers in all 4 corners tho. My eye slides up to the two blocks above center that has 2 red flowers coming close to each other. Cheery, crisp, modern ...just lovely. Thanks.

What an ingenious design, Laura, and what a stunning effect it creates! The only thing I would do differently [if I really loved the large/focus print, and I do have a few fabrics where that is true] is to choose ahead of time which 4 half-log-cabins I wanted at the centre of my quilt, but not sew the half square triangles to them. Rather, I'd cut one larger square of the large/focus print fabric, and use those four half-log-cabins to "on point" the large centre square. That way, the lovely print would remain intact. (To do the arithmetic on how large the centre square needs to be, just measure the diagonal of a 10.5" square, and add a 1/4" seam allowance...something like 15+1/8" square. This means you can cut only 16 of the 11" squares, rather than 18). It would mean assembling the other blocks a bit differently, but I think it would be worth it. Thanks for making and posting this tutorial. ~Diana from Toronto

Or just "fussy cut" the center triangles, or all of the triangles to emphasize the parts one likes best, like the "poppy" flowers. Love how this quilt turned out and the many options shown before it was sewn together.
