I think you mentioned this about an hour in but, House Blackwood being more a consequence of GRRM's 'gardener' style writing makes a lot of sense. It seems the Blackwoods as a house grew on GRRM as he has been writing. That or perhaps he needed another ancient house to have sway in the story to come.

4:35 it doesn't matter much, but he's talking about Hag's Mire rather than Hag's Rest. It's a huge marshland that forms the headwaters of the Blue Fork.

One thing about the Pennytree holdfast: the people are shut up in there out of fear rather than defiance. Jaime definitely recognizes that. Cersei wouldn't recognize the difference - she's certainly a character who could yell "Stop exploding you cowards!" with no self-awareness - but it's unclear which way the Lannister army would decide without them present. One of his soldiers point out that they could take it quite easily, but when Jaime turns him down, no one seems to complain about making camp and leaving the holdfast uncaptured. It could go either way.

He got picked to be a squire because he was a huge kid for his age and Sir Arlen having experience and worldly knowledge will be able to tell that he going to be a massive specimen of a man when fully grown. Plus he was a hedge knight who many times don't even have squires so I doubt they ever have noble born squires

Yep, I'd also add that Arlan and Dunk both needed a companion and Arlan recognized that. He put himself between Dunk and the world for as long as he could, giving Dunk as much of a proper childhood as he was likely to have.

Just started the stream so maybe this will come up, but anyone else wonder if potentially the creation of the others and the long night, could be related to house Stark driving house Blackwood from the north?? The prominent theory about the nights king is that he was a stark, but could he of potentially been a blackwood? and house Stark decided to remove the entire house from the north as punishment? just some thoughts

I just like the Blackwood house. Or the idea of the house. If that makes any sense. Not my favorite house, but I do have a soft spot for it. Balck Aly is my favorite of the house. For sure.

Does Blackwood follow the "traditional" naming conventions for Northern house names? There's no evidence but I like the idea that House Blackwood was first House Wood, until they were run out of the North and became Blackwood when they settled in the Riverlands
