My boating safety tip is aimed at the fellows behind the boat at the 3:10 mark. Never, ever get near the motor of a boat unless you have met eyes with captain or the key is in your pocket.
@doyrayburn26682 жыл бұрын
Sage advice. Been there done that. A big Moomba ran aground in front of our lake house. Guys feet went right through the floor. We were trying to board it up the swim ladder to help him and he's up there hittin the ignition trying to start it. Blew 2.4 on breathalyzer. Fckng moron.
@katchoo18652 жыл бұрын
I had a friend rush to push the boat I was driving away from shore as the wind blew us in. I couldn't believe it when he came up to the motor as it was running. As I shut it off his face changed to horror, we all gasped. The prop cut his wet suit open but barely cut the skin. Never approach a running propeller. He has now passed as he had a different unlucky "accident".
@alanploetz71002 жыл бұрын
Haven't heard you give the "never approach anything any faster than you are willing to hit it advice" for a while. Always love that piece of sensible advice, which we see violated in so many videos in close quarters, like marinas.👍

The only thing that worried me is if he has stopping ability. I am sure that boat and trailer weigh considerably more than the scooter, and I could not tell if he had an inter-brake system of any kind. Trailers live to push at all the wrong times!

Thanks for continuing the tradition of showing boat safety. It is vitally important.
@ronfullerton31622 жыл бұрын
@@robertljones7566 Thank you! I have pulled many types of trailers, and there are things to look out for when pulling a trailer. There are both good and bad thongs about that combination, the best is it travels at a low speed and the worst is I do not know how good the brake system on a scooter is. I have seen boat trailers towed by riding lawnmowers and golf carts before. Just as long as it is a single axle trailer, I imagine they will get along fine if they use their heads.

My young daughter and I are huge fans of Broncos Guru and Bonehead Boater of the Week. We have watched every episode. At the local launch ramp whenever we go by a fellow boater preparing to launch, my daughter shouts out to them “don’t forget the drain plug”. Most respond with a big smile saying thank you. But twice this season so far she saved two boats from launching without the plug installed. Everyday she amazes me with her kindness to other people. Thank you providing a show with quality content and excellent narration.

Every time I watch this stuff I become more thankful I took power squadron and coast guard boating classes covering most all aspects of being on the water. My wife and I have successfully and safely navigated inland lakes, the great lakes,, waterways, rivers and the gulf of Mexico without incident in 18' to 31' length boats over our lifetime. A few years ago I was sailing my vintage sailboat, a small wooden GP14. As I came into the dock, I furled the jib and was preparing to turn into the wind so I could drop the main. As I moved, I accidently let go of the tiller and it went hard over, causing the bow of my little boat to hit an aluminum jon boat also at the dock. I did not damage my boat or the hull of the Jon boat, but I bent this trolling motor. This was a very slow speed hit. We went online, found a replacement for the part I broke, and I now own a bent trolling motor!
