Hi Jennifer and co. This is John here, Just got back to Canada after a 6 month stay in Costa Rica, (major rebuild on my house there) and trying to miss the winter blasts here. Im surprised you did not install the rubber seal on the stair treads. That edge is chopped open with the saw so if water gets on there it will swell and cause problems. You should seal the board ends as you go. I use an eye dropped filled with wood sealant on the screws as they go in. That is part of the joys of new house build. It is never a smooth process especially with rough raw land.
