My heart goes out to the family who lost a loved one. I remember a house fire in Zion, Illinois back in 1975. A young man, a teenager who smelled smoke on a cold winter’s morning. Thankfully the family was saved by the young man. The elderly man in the house was disabled and couldn’t walk but the young man helped get the elderly man and his two grand nieces out and safe. I was the young man who saved them. That was 1975 when I was 15 years old. About 15 years later I suffered a major loss from a fire too and I’m grateful for the help we got from colleagues and strangers

Adding a comment from Australia, last Thursday there was a town house explosion which killed 4 people in Southwest Sydney. First in 4 years, there's been an increase in house fires from lithium Ion batteries

There are numerous incidents of runaway thermal events occuring due to the use of damaged Li-ion batteries shorting out when being charged. People should always refer to the operator instructions when using all devices that employ Li-ion batteries and follow the safety instructions.

The correct address is 23549 Overhill , not 23525 and the Hernandez house is south of the victim, not north.
@WooSungShim7 ай бұрын
Hi, the house that exploded and caught on fire is 23525 North Overhill Drive. The initial address of 23549 North Overhill Drive was used because that was given initially to dispatchers at the time of the incident. Ulises Hernandez, the neighbor who had the surveillance video and witnessed the incident, lives north of the victim. I apologize if this is confusing due to the address heard in the fire toneouts. Hi there, the fire department has not yet released the cause of the explosion. However, Lake Zurich Fire Chief David Pilgard did say at the scene that this incident is "not necessarily suspicious" (22:56) I would assume it will take a long time before fire officials can definitively determine the cause of the explosion. It is currently under investigation. Thank you for your question and let me know if you need anything else!

It seems they are now doing all the gas pipes to re-pave the main road and side streets. It is a major re-piping. Keeping watchful eye for problems caused by this gas line replacement.

24 seconds worth of tones. Have these fire companies already been alerted prior to the tones? If not, 24 seconds is a long time to delay sending help.
@evad17 ай бұрын
No, they haven't. That is primarily how they are alerted to what the situation is and what is being requested depending on the MABAS card pulled. Unless they've been listening in on other radio comms for the first due chief, dept, company, or equipment, they wouldn't know they're being requested until the page comes in. Many are volunteer in this area and that would be how they are alerted. And picture a page tone, message, page tone message----to each responding agency. That would take even longer. Northern IL developed the MABAS system probably 30 years ago. The systems works.

We would also like to see the update on the results of the investigation of each house explosion of why it happened and why it wouldn't have happened 50 years ago because they didn't happen 50 years ago.
@TrafficCamWatch7 ай бұрын
Yes they did. You just didn't hear about it because we have the internet now and you can hear about anything very fast. Never forget the 1946 Greenville propane explosion.
@timpula99847 ай бұрын
The most common cause of house explosions is a gas leak (natural gas or propane) in the house. The gas builds up in the house and can be ignited instantly by a very simple spark such as - the igniter for a gas appliance, flipping on a light switch, even static electricity. Further, gas is a far more common home heating source today. In 1940 11% of homes were heated by natural gas/propane. Today it is just over 60% and in some states it is as high as 90%. Then add to that the fact that number of housing units have almost doubled between 1970 and 2020 and you have the recipe for a greater number of events. The point below from @TrafficCamWatch is spot on and important. If this explosion occurred in 1970 or even the early 2000's, it is only reported by the local newspaper and/or local TV news. With the internet, particularly social media (including KZbin), everyone walking around with a camera, what used to be a very local news event, even as recently has 2 decades ago, can now be seen by millions across the globe. Lastly, as soon as you watch one of these events on KZbin, Facebook, Instagram etc., the algorithms used by those platforms to send you content decide that you want to see home explosion content and they start feeding more of these events to you. It's then easy to for the viewer to leap to the conclusion that these are happening everywhere and there is a "problem." That's why it's important to look at the factual statistical data and specifically the rate of these events. The rate would be the number of explosion events as a percentage of the total number of housing units. For example - the # of explosion events per 1000 housing units.
