As a brit living in America I was thrilled to buy a lovely house only to discover I had 2 rooms I never used. That is common in the USA. For any American looking to find a house in the UK similar to those USA is practically impossible. Unless they have a budget to match to match their criteria. Hate to say it but a lot of Americans have no clue about what happens in other countries.!

I'm American and I searched for a very long time for a cute little house like they have "across the pond". I watch these old videos and my heart wishes I could live in the UK, but at least I did find my own little jewel box in exactly the town where I wanted it. As an American, why are so many of us so self-hating and constantly put ourselves down?? You know, the majority of Americans don’t have huge houses, and half can’t even afford the American dream anymore! There’s a big movement for Tiny Homes, because many can’t afford large homes. American, Canada and Australia have similar size homes, but the others don’t brow-beat themselves for having similar taste in homes. I can’t watch this type program again, because of this!

One thing I’ve noticed is, the U.S., Canada and Australia has similar sized homes. Britons don’t know it’s not just an American thing. But some Americans are fine with being self-degrading, instead of explaining the difference. Because not many in America can afford the big American dream house. Some remember shows like “Life of the Rich & Famous” or “Dallas” when everybody had a big home. But I’ve never lived in a home more than 1200 sq ft, and the overwhelming majority of Americans never lived in huge homes either!! But some aren’t ready to get rid of their stereotypes!! About putting one’s hand on your pregnant stomach, yes that’s common and innocent practice in America!! Nobody pays it any attention!!😅❤

@@thehungrygoldfish You make good points, but I was comparing like with like. I grew up exactly in this couple's Berkshire search area, and now live in an equally priced area of rural northern California. (In April last year, the average house price in Windsor and Maidenhead was £515,000, in contrast to the October 2022 UK average of £296,000.) So my thought was that the wife SHOULD have been comparing what she was seeing with what she would see in the most expensive parts of the U.S.

For that reason, it makes no sense to say Americans are wrong, because their definition of small is different in the UK. My only advice to Americans that go overseas is do extensive homework about the housing of that area, beforehand! I love Australian homes, more than American homes, but I it would be silly to criticize or stereotype them, because they like spacious more contemporary homes! I think Alyssa is no different than a lot of their picky house hunters who need to reset their expectations on value for money, depending on the location. People out here who are so strongly against her just don't like her because she's a American. People hated her because of her "attitude", which really meant because she was American.
