He’s a great actor but the character Victor Petrov is basically just a hollywood portrayal of Vladimir Putin. There’s not a lot to make a spin off from there.
@akorn9943

@@Pielover78 eh, why not? Putin’s Russia is basically just modern-day game of thrones. I think it would be entertaining as hell to watch how someone like him has to maneuver to keep power, and I mean after all the original show basically just explores that exact same premise but with the most ruthless parts of the modern American political system instead.

Despite many people didn't like this season. This scene is pure House of Cards I wouldn't mind watching an entire series based on Petrov and Russian politics

I know but the material is lacking. Have you heard of what happened to the Narcos (Netflix tv show) researcher who got murdered by a gang. It's hard enough.

Petrov comes with arguments and facts. Jane has nothing but insults. Just like in real life.

Its painfully ironic,the last season was meant to be feminist by putting Robin Wright in the lead role, but it came at the price of the most interesting female supporting character, Jane. First off, the end of the fifth season made it look like they were going to take a more international perspective, showing the limitations of the White House and how it fits within the larger sociopolitical/ economic landscape, Claire on the inside of the white house with Usher and Frank on the outside working with Jane. Jane would have been particularly interesting to see considering her background in international negotiations. However, in order to increase the feminist angle by making Claire more intimidating, the show retracted its scope and made it seem like the White House withe the strongest international entity and forced the show to only focus on national matters (though it was nice to have national matters that didn't revolve around the circus of elections, for a change in a political show). This shift in the show basically put an expiration date on Jane Davis's character because she was so tightly tide to international issues. This scene here I feel was the writers trying to salvage the most interesting part of a plot thread they were forced to cut. When we meet Jane, we are curious to see if she did indeed care for Usher or if she was just manipulating him, the show did preserve this ambiguity with Jane's death by having Usher be the man she called as she was dying (did she do this to share her last moment with the man she loved or did Jane figure out what Claire did before she died and she was just calling Usher to manipulate him into avenging her death? I love how her last words are about aspirin or something and Usher when talking to the Underwoods said that Jane just pretended to have migraines to appear more disoriented and neurotic than she actually was). However I think this scene is suppose to show that her real motivation (something the audience had really no concrete idea of until this point) was to take revenge against Petrov for braking her heart. That line "its chemical" makes it sound like she is trying to deny ownership of her emotions and fixation on him by saying her attachment solely stems from biological forces that she should take no accountability of. Some might take issue with a character as formidable as Jane Davis to amount to "A Woman Scorned" but personally I kind of like this because she came off as one of the most psychopathic characters on the show ( when Frank, a psychopath, talks to her alone and says "Don't think I didn't know exactly what you were the moment I saw you" was in reference to that idea "takes one to know one") and it turns out that she actually did have the capacity to love. Part of me enjoys this just as a romantic, but mostly its because part of the reason I watched this show was to learn about those types of people and this would be interesting to learn, very Twin Peaks. IDK if she loved Petrov because she could have gained power through him, or if the reason she never wanted any direct power ( like Frank and Claire who put power before all forms of love in their lives) and she contented herself with the indirect power of influencing powerful people was because she actually valued love more than power. Still though, I don't think I properly understand Jane's Character, I might be too much of a Marshmallow, and I feel really cheated out of not seeing her original (or what I imagine to have been her original) story line, probably would have learned a lot. When Frank asked Jane what he could have given her, revenge against Petrov could have been something he could have legitimately given and seeing the two of them in an alliance would have been an amazing story line, I am sure Franks's experience as Congressional whip making congressmen agree on Bills he wanted to pass must have been similar to Jane's experience internationally making international actors go along with the Negotiations she wanted to happen. They could have worked together, gained mutual respect for each other and had an interesting relationship. and if she fell for a guy like Petrov, Who's to say she wouldn't have fallen for a guy like Frank, after he demonstrated his skills to her. But like I said, I am a marshmallow. It is truly a shame we didn't get to see that story line Sorry fo the long post, but It's like impossible to find anyone to talk to about this show with, especially any one who would really want to analyze these character arcs

It seems like the feminism was going around this series for a long time, and it came full out in season 6 were they had to scramble for ideas in reshooting.

Great comment But where is it shown that Jane fell for Petrov?
@PhilospherDjPsychologist24
@PhilospherDjPsychologist24 2 жыл бұрын
@@valardohaeris333 Well, they start the scene bumping into each other, but considering how he entered her blindspot to do that I think he did that on purpose. her comment "you look taller" and Petrov complimenting her looks I think suggests they had some fling in the past, so making physical contact was meant to get under her skin. that doesn't mean she loves him, but when she says "its chemical" I think she is saying "the only reason I still have a thing for you is because my biological physiology is compelling me against my will" which is kind of a common thing to think if you are caught in a bad romance. no hard evidence, but that would be how I read the scene
