Benjamin Purnell was my 2nd great grand uncle. It is so awesome to see these photos! Thank you for sharing.

I live in Benton Harbor and have always been fascinated with the House of David. I know at one time Benjamin Purnells body was in the Diamond House in a glass coffin. But after it was unfortunately vandalized, did they move him?

That is a very good question. I honestly thought he was still in the diamond house but maybe not. I’m not sure how to find out about that.

I think the government made them bury him, as I recall. You know the funeral directors' political lobby is very well entrenched.

The 5th picture is a bridge between two buildings. There used to be two buildings called Jerusalem and Bethlehem I think. My grandmother was a member and as a kid we would visit back in the 70's-the 90's till her death in 96'. My grandmother lived in both buildings. My grandparents and their children were members. My mothers mother. My brother and sisters used to walk that bridge when we were kids. My favorite place was their homemade ice cream shop on the corner.

Awesome information! Thank you so much for sharing.. One of my old friends told me about a bird Avery that was off one of the side roads around those buildings.. We went to look for it one time and I think we found some remnants of it. Pretty cool place with lots of neat history.
