Guys you did a piece on why trans actor was not casted in the film but all of you are CIS yourself. Some of your language was not sensitive and doing that homework could be nice. I am cis myself and I found someone of the language very triggering I can’t imagine it was all ok. Example, she was manly, she had manly features… it is like saying someone is gay because they are effeminate… these are tropes and perpetuate more tropes….the one thing trans community wants people to know is….there is no male or female “type” there are enough biologically female presenting women who have androgynous features so not all trans have to stand out or fit in….so when you talk about sexuality atleast work a little hard to find folks with gender struggle and sexual struggle in panel or research

Till now Transgenders in bollywood have been played by men dressing up as women.... This is the first time that a woman has played a trans character. Transgender men identify as a woman so I don't see the issue in a woman playing a transgender character... It would be unfair if a transgender woman has to always play a transgender only.... So if a transgender woman can play a cis gender girl shouldn't a cis gender woman be okay playing a transgender?.... Kudos to Vaani for picking this role... And she does not look manly at all.... Sharp features does not imply manliness..... She is damn attractive and beautiful

That's the problem, there is literally no trans character played by a trans individual in the Bollywood movie. There is literally no representation of the trans community in Bollywood. You are talking about trans individuals playing cis characters, but even you can't come with any examples. Because there are literally none. People are saying to cast trans individuals for the trans role, so the trans community can get at least some representation in Bollywood. And also it can do a great help for cis people to understand that trans people are valid people with valid identities, and not some performance played by cis people. CORRECTION: Transgender men do not identify as women, they identify themselves as men. So, yes cisgender women should not play the role of a trans character, and the same thing also goes for cisgender men.

An actor can play whatever character they can pull off, that's their job - ACTING. It's just a shame that talent goes wasted in minority communities. There's no way there are no talented actors there. When we stick to convention that hidden talent goes to the crapper. They choose people for star power here unlike the west where a good story executed well does well no matter what but even there anyone can play any role provided they're convincing on screen.
