Much better than the average 30s and 40s low budget indie. Lots of fun with excellent photography. Great visual sense of composition. Check out the group scene at around 17:00. He manages to capture all 9 characters distinctly in different parts of the room in one shot, perfectly framed.

Amazing...1934 and that dance scene had actual near-east music (not the Hollywood cliche version) and even showed musicians playing a dumbek and oud! For a low budget film, that's pretty impressive!

How did I enjoy this movie! 🎥❤ Probably one of the first attempts to create a comedy/horror genre. At first, pure horror cinema had huge success but also a downside. People were complaining of extreme anxiety, nightmares and some even sue productions of miscarriages due stress caused by shock. And some of those horror flicks of 1920s were pretty much disturbing to watch. Here we have a spook, but not too much so prudent sensitive crowd couldn't handle👻.

Motion Pictures for Television 1934? Television didn’t exist then except in the lab or Germany where they had regular TV broadcasts using Nipkow disc mechanical TV. The BBC had Baird mechanical TV but not regular broadcasts and certainly no one thought of movies. This title must have been added later.

This would have been a much better with the cast of "The Coconuts" with the Marx Bros. and everyone else in that genuinely-funny old film (their first). Margaret Dumont as the old lady, Zeppo as the insurance guy, Chico as the plumber, etc.
@anonagain5 жыл бұрын
I could totally see that - it would have been much funnier. Incidentally Verna Hillie who played the blond in this had an uncredited part in "Duck Soup" with the Marx Brothers as Trentino's blonde secretary.
