I do think Laenor loved the kids the whole time, similar to being a step dad. The difference is that step dads are (in theory) wholly committed to their partners and their children. Laenor, imo, wasn’t wholly committed because he had the whole galavanting with Qarl thing going on and although he absolutely deserves to be with Qarl as per his arrangement with Rhaenyra, he perhaps ought to have worked on balancing his time between his lover and his wife and (step, sort of-) children. I think that’s what he meant when he was talking about not loving his children enough. He loved them but didn’t give them as much attention as he thinks he could, which is true.

1:12:46 After Visenya (Aegon I's older sister), Vhagar was ridden by Prince Baelon (Viserys and Damon's dad) and then Laena. And to add to the discussion, dragons are not property. The Targaryen have them because they are the only ones that can ride them. That's why is a big issue, at least in the book, that Laena and Laenor have dragons. Rick is right about the handling of Alicent. She is an extension of the king and marital issues between the king and queen in this time could potentially mean collapse. Also Viserys just isn't that guy. Others would probably want to kill her off but at this point in the story Alicent has a ton of influence. In fact the greens vs the blacks started because it split the court with the greens aka the queen's party and the blacks aka the princess's party. Even in Eastern Asian royal customs they couldn't just get rid of the queens or the queen mothers without there being some extremely complicated process. Also at this point while Rhaenyra is the heir, Viserys is still alive so Alicent's position is unseemly but she's still considered more senior at the moment. Especially since she's also the mother of four of the King's children, two of them being healthy sons. Finally, Viserys just isn't in a position health-wise to severely punish Alicent. They may not be in love but he trusts her and he just reinstated her father as hand which would please House Hightower. Basically, it's not worth the political headache to do something severe about her.

Who, because of her father, was forced to marry the king, but... she looked after him, washed him, slept with him (when he had ulcers all over his body, no arms and soon no eye), took care of him. Velaryons are not dragon riders, it's all about the Targaryen blood that makes it happen. Laena was a dragon rider because her mother's a Targaryen. That's swhy the Velaryons allied themselves with the Targaryens, they control the see and the Targaryens control the sky. Aemond claimed Vhagar fair and square, she accepted him and they are about to wreck havoc together.

It wasn’t fair and square. The honorable thing to do is to let the mothers daughter try and claim her first. That’s why The eye being lost became the “exchange” cause he did earn his right to ride her in the sense that the dragon accepted him and be passed the first ride. But the idea that he got the CHANCE to ride her before the daughter is not fair. The scenes of him chases the dragon and finding her was shown to emphasize his deep desire and obsession to have one. He clearly didn’t care about honor at this point. It’s brilliant character building to really make us feel the disdain the children will have for one another.

I didn't work on the show, and have not seen any backstage interviews about it, but I have done film making and some industry stuff, and the choice to film day-for-night is easy to understand (and this is not a judgement on if it looks good or not). They shot all this on location at the island of Saint Michael's Mount. When films shoot complex sequences in true night, visibility of the subjects is achieved with complex and expensive lighting, often utilizing huge rigs and cranes. There's a good shot of the house at night from Nope going round for reference. For me, to do a night set up at that location was probably over the time/resources they had.

I knew from the moment he took one step in Vhagar’s direction (let alone dare to approach her and even claim her) and saw him fly without being fastened to the saddle while the same theme that played when Daenerys proved herself in her story played in the background that he was a true Targaryen.

But at the same time, it also just adds to Rhaenyra being right about Alicent that her main issue is resentment and jealousy that Alicent plays by their society’s rules and was put in a situation she didn’t want to be in, sacrificing her own wishes, while Rhaenyra gets the privilege to do what she wants with no real consequences to her position, again because of her and Viserys’s word. I’m absolutely with Eric here, try and out yourself in Alicent’s shoes here Rhaenyra constantly complainined about having to choose a husband despite that being an extremely privileged position to be in (especially when she’s complaining about it to ALICENT who just got told she was marrying Viserys), she went on that stupid night out with Daemon, seduced a Kingsguard, lied about still being a virgin, has produced three bastard children that she unabashedly pretends are trueborn and everyone just has to go along with it and now her sons ambushed one of Alicent’s sons and cut out his eye and got away with it completely unpunished. Alicent has had to watch Rhaenyra trample over all the expectations and customs of her station and get away with it because her father spoils her, all while knowing that once Viserys dies and knives come out her children will be in harms way. That must be maddening I also think that Aaron has to realise that it isn’t like everyone in Westeros has just decided to act like Rhaenyra’s children are legitimate, they’re just maintaining the kings delusion because he’s the king. Literally the second he dies people aren’t going to be afraid to share their true feelings on the subject
@blurrylinesx80392 жыл бұрын
I agree with the Alicent parts but I don't think people realize how much Rhaenyra got fucked over with that marriage to Laenor (who was set up by Viserys in an attempt to mend a relationship with his biggest ally that got strained by HIS mistakes). Laenor is a gay man, they tried to conceive, it didn't work. For obvious reasons, they couldn't just ask that marriage to be nullified, and if she didn't had any kids in those 10 years, it'd be equally as bad for her claim, as ppl would deem her incapable of bearing a child. She couldn't just also pick a random Laenor lookalike, because if she trusted the wrong person with this, she'd be screwed. Daemon was off to Pentos and probably already married to Laena. She most likely hoped her genes would overpower the Strong ones so the kids would at least look like her, but she got very unlucky. As for Alicent, it's clear her resentment towards Rhaenyra comes from a place of jealousy, which is very human and fitting. She has fullfied her duty to her father and the king at the expense of her own wishes but got no reward out of it, and she clearly expected Rhaenyra to go through the same mysery as heir, but Rhaenyra, unlike her, is a non conformist. And she has Viserys by her side, whom unlike Otto, is a ride or die for his daughter and is ready to defend her. Regarding the conflict tho, she lost me the second she decided to charge with a knife in hand ready to maim a child. Viserys is dead wrong for not caring about his other kids and she has every right, as a mother, to be absolutely pissed at him and Rhaenyra, but Lucerys and Aemond are kids. They didn't know better and are fully being influenced by their parents' biases. Luke harming Aemond and causing him to loose his eye in the middle of a fight is absolutely not enough justification for her, as the adult of the situation, want to pluck a little kid's eye out with her bare hands. He should receive some sort of punishing, but that's way too extreme

How did Luc "ambush" Aemond? Yes, one of Daemon's girls hit Aemond first, but she did it after rubbing it in her face that her mother dead and he had just *taken* what belonged to her mother...the DAY OF HER FUNERAL. He intended to insult/hurt her, and he did, so she struck him. He hit her back, with WAY more force, and then Luc and Jace came to her defense. Aemond is the first one to pick up a weapon, brandishing a rock and threatening to KILL the younger boy. He brandished that same rock at Luc, and Luc drew his knife to defend himself, because _every other thing he had done unarmed did not put an end to the fight_ and now his opponent had a weapon in hand. It was hardly an ambush; Luc wasn't hiding and lying in wait for Aemond to come defenseless around a corner while minding his own business. It was a hand to hand fight that got out of hand and it became deadly the moment Aemond picked up a weapon. It's true that Luc's weapon was the more deadly of the two, but it was a weapon of last resort, used to defend himself and his little brother from getting their heads *bashed in with a ROCK*
