Man I feel like the scene of Aegon weeping at the end all alone adds so much more complexity to his character. Despite his bravado from earlier that scene shows us many things about him. First, is that it was just a mask and he is acting almost entirely out of grief and anger currently. Also, it probably shows a complete breakdown at the realization he is again rejected by his father as he was all his life and now also rejected by Otto. I gotta say too that some of the blame lies with Otto. Aegon never wanted the crown in the first place and Otto did all he could to make it happen but also he never stepped in and filled the void Viserys left and taught Aegon himself. Lastly, Daeron fans, we finally got our mention. Let's hope they do our boy justice. Daeron is hands down the best Green character

Exactly this. Even if he didn't say it, she would still have suspected him. Pretty much everyone knew he killed his first wife, but no one could do anything about it. Viserys always tried to keep him away because he knows he can't take orders and he will cause a mess if he gets involved in important business.

I think the scene of Aegon crying is also telling of the Hightower family dynamic. Just before we see Alicent try to confide in her father about her troubles and he says, "I do not wish to hear it". When Aegon is in distress, Alicent doesn't comfort him because she herself was never comforted by her father. Even in other scenes from season 1, Alicent has never comforted her sons. Generational trauma. In conclusion this family is horrible

Him taking the throne the day after Viserys publicly strengthened Rhenaera's claim to the throne, Rhaenys breaking out of the dragon pits. Like Otto said, he was already seen as weak. The only thing that would have strengthened his image is to paint the other heir (Rhanaera) as a monster. Unite the people, and in turn the noble houses, against a common enemy. It would have worked if he didn't then turn around and murder all the ratcatchers who were all commonfolk. Especially without publicly giving a reason. To the outsider it just looks like bloodlust for his murdered son. It paints him as the same type of monster he claims Rhanaera to be seeing as she also lost her son.

And now he knows all too well how utterly unworthy Aegon is of the throne. It's telling how he's going to join up with Daeron, who is by far the nicest and most responsible of the brothers.

Otto was always severely misunderstood and hated. Dude was extremely competent and ambitious yes but no more than Corlys or anyone else. He even suggests naming Rhaenyra in good faith and only changes his tune once she too rejects his counsel (kingsguard scene in particular) and then when Viserys has a son, yes there's some ambition at play, Otto views it as historically the son inherits over the daughter. He's a man of the time in that regard and plays by the rules of succession as pretty much every Lord does

@@derps0n839 I think it was Erryk. If I'm recalling correctly, Erryk was the one with the cut on his leg. Arryk dug his fingers into that wound which sent Erryk crawling for his sword. When Arryk came at him he got stabbed and killed. So, it was Erryk who fell on his sword.

Areyk, gripped with the guilt of killing his brother and the fact that he must have truly believed in what Viserys said fell on his sword. There was also clearly no way out for him anyway. He would have been put to death regardless. I think it would have been more layerd if it was Erryk tho. Cuz if it was Erryk that survived there would be no way for anyone to actually verify which was which. He would know that no one would trust him near the queen so he fell on his sword to make sure there were no doubts to her safety.

It was Viserys's job to teach his son to be a man. Much like Robert was responsible for Joffrey. Conversely Ned was responsible for Robb and Jon.

Rhaenyra also needed to make an effort to get closer to her siblings to avoid division once their dad died. Those kids didn't get love from any of their parents. Alicent is cold while Viserys was sick I think ever since they were born.

I love how they highlighted the kind of mother Alicent truly is. Aegon needed her twice in this episode alone and both times she turned her back on him. As for Criston, I'm done with that MF. He was on duty that night. Ser Arryk was with the king and crispy cleared the hallways for privacy. It was 10000% his fault. It was refreshing seeing Otto angry over the loss of innocents and i appreciate his reality check to Aegon. No one in their right mind would believe Viserys chose him as heir.

He's been obviously trying to gather armies, the Lannisters are already moving towards the capital. In the meanwhile the Vale hasn't moved a finger to help Rhaenyra, the North is sending only 2000 men... Otto had been winning the war so far

The dynamics of parent-child bond between Otto and Alicent is reflected onto Alicent and her own children: Aegon, Haelena, and Aemond. Alicent never received compassion, warmth, affection, and sympathy from her dad; hence, she is unable to offer such actions and emotions toward her own children. She tries to confess her sins to Otto but he doesn't have the time for Alicent, his own daughter. For Otto, everything is about practical usage and rationality, no emotion and no feelings. As such, Alicent tries to justify her actions to Haelena, unable to fathom her daughter's state mind slowly descending into psychotic breakdown.

That twin was probably the most honorable of the bunch who would question Criston if he messed up again and if he found out he's sleeping with Alicent, it's over for Criston. If I was him I would have joined my twin and never looked back. Criston needed to do something "useful" to avoid people questioning his whereabouts that night. He threw him under the bus for his own survival. He became everything he didn't wanna be.

Aegon was fantastic this episode. Impulsive, but how else is he expected to be? His son just murdered and everyone around him is trying to manipulate the situation for political gain when all he wants is revenge. He reminded me a lot of Viserys in S1E2&3

Yep and Otto himself told Aegon his son was worth more dead than alive, how his blood and their families grief was a win for them. Like I don’t care if he is more politically minded and smarter than everyone else that was a shitty thing to say and definitely not the right thing to say out loud. I think the city guard knew exactly what he was in store for because he had tortured and hurt many people before. You saw the opening sequence in S1 when Daemon asserts the guard's authority over King's Landing. By confessing he avoided prolonged torture (which Larys looks disappointed not to have been able to perform) and gets a swift death by being smashed with a mace. Best possible fate for him once he was caught. And I think he knew that.

Alicent scene leaving Aegon showed how different Alicent and Rhaenyra motheing and also their past with their own parent is Rhaenyra goes and hugs his son and thats all he needs and here Alicent just leaves him letting Aegon to grieve on his own it does makes sense don't get me wrong but i wished Alicent would do the same

Alicent should have consoled Aegon when was bawling his eyes out about the loss of his son. That was heartbreaking to see in so many ways. She never shows him any real motherly affection. Put all the politics and all the other BS aside and hug your son! Compare that scene with the one between Rhaenyra and Jacaerys last episode, and that pretty much sums up the types of mothers they are in a nutshell. Viserys and Alicent were negligent in showing much paternal love for Aegon. That's one of the key reasons why he turned out the way he did. They just let him run wild doing anything he wanted without providing him a loving foundation. He might have made a decent ruler if they had-or better yet a decent person.

Honestly, Rhaenera was all of us team black people this ep. Matt Smith is such a great guy and a good actor that we want to love Daemon, but he makes it so dang hard lol! I had a feeling this would be his position. He and Aemond are the same, they neither one intended the results of their actions to happen, but once it did, they both just rolled with it and their attitude was 'oh well, can't change it now'.

The thing is B&C asked him what if we can’t find Aemond and while we don’t hear his exact response they both go on later about it needing to be a son, so Daemon did tell them if you can’t find Aemond then it needs to be a son for a son, so any son of the greens royal family would be accepted (Which given the ones in kings landing would be Aemond, Aegon, or Jaehaerys). So yeah still 100% Daemons fault.
